MOSES LAKE — In a delightful fusion of nostalgia and culinary adventure, the Big Bend Cooperative Preschool is once again hosting its beloved Dr. Seuss-inspired breakfast fundraiser, featuring none other than the beloved dish made famous by the iconic children’s book: “Green Eggs and Ham.”

“This is your chance to try it and celebrate your memories of these great books and the adventures of childhood,” encourages Sadie Tucker, a board member of the preschool.

The event will take place on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1020 A St. in Moses Lake.

All proceeds will benefit the cooperative preschool, which prides itself on fostering both preschool and parental education through active participation in the classroom. The suggested donation is $20.

Originally imagined as a birthday celebration for Dr. Seuss, the theme has persisted post-pandemic as a whimsical nod to childhood wonder.

“It's kind of a fun little theme that we've done for the last couple of years after COVID, and it makes for a great environment for parents of toddlers,” Tucker said.

As the aroma of green eggs fills the air, attendees can relive moments from the cherished pages of “Green Eggs and Ham,” where Sam-I-Am engages in a persistent culinary debate. “Would you like them in a house? Would you like them with a mouse?”

“It really engages families and allows them to connect over shared experiences,” Tucker said.

The event draws not just local families but also grandparents and future parents curious about enrollment. “We’re open to anybody — families with kids, those considering preschool, and anyone who appreciates a good plate of green eggs,” she said.

In addition to the memorable meal, the breakfast will feature an auction, showcasing an array of donated items, from fruit trees to spa certificates. Tucker enthuses about the excitement surrounding the auction, observing that previous events have seen great turnout and competitive bidding.

“Last year, we raised a good amount with some really fantastic auction items,” she said.

As the community comes together to celebrate creativity and education, Tucker hopes to foster new connections and make memories over plates of the whimsical dish.
