Mavs start new faces in Tuesday’s victory

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks earned a 13-3 victory at home against Davis on Tuesday afternoon.
“We made some changes in our lineup just to see some other people,” said Mavs head coach Donnie Lindgren.
Lindgren said he was pleased with the performance by his pitchers as the Mavs decided to start junior pitcher Noah Hernandez for the first time, where he surrendered six hits and three runs over four innings, striking out seven and walking none. Wyatt Cole pitched one inning of relief, where he gave up one hit, struck out one and walked one.
“They got a couple hits that found some holes in our outfield, and we couldn’t quite get to them,” said the coach. “Hernandez stayed his course, and he kept throwing strikes and we started making plays.”
The Mavs scored eight runs in the second inning with Jacoby Fulbright scoring on an error, Dagen Enquist grounds into fielder’s choice allowing Cooper Hancock and Cruz Martinez to score on two different errors, Jacoby Mugnos drew a walk for a run, Jonny Purcell singled for another run, Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly putting another point on the board, Fulbright drew a walk which resulted in another scoring run and one more error gave Purcell a scoring run.
The coach said both Hernandez and Cole had completely shut down their opponents by the third inning, allowing no further points for their opponent and the team put up five more points across three innings to end the game in the fifth.
Moses Lake looks to continue its momentum as it moves forward toward the end of the regular season, he said.
“We’re going to do the same thing we do every day since I started coaching back in the '90s, we work on our fundamentals every day,” said Lindgren. “Continue to just do the little things and try and perfect those so that the team that makes the least amount of mistakes once we get rolling, that’s the team that’s going to win.”
The Mavs next game will be on the road as they face Davis again for a doubleheader Friday, with the first game starting at 4 p.m.
