Mavs fall to Jackson at home

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Mavericks softball team came up short, 5-2, against the visiting Jackson Timberwolves. This comes after a dominant doubleheader win over the Eisenhower Cadets.  

“Jackson's a really good team with an established program, but we didn't play our sharpest and a lot of times in two good teams to get together, it's the team that makes one less mistake that comes out on top,” Mavs head coach Mike Hofheins said.  

After the second inning, both teams were tied at 2-2. From the third inning to the end, it would be the Timberwolves building a lead, including a fifth run in the seventh inning, making it 5-2.  

Paige Richardson threw 120 pitches, 72 of which were strikes. Hofheins called it a gutsy performance by his pitcher.  

A combination of injuries mounting and not being able to get players who were on base home contributed to the tough showing by the Mavericks, he said. Despite the loss, Hofheins is happy with the way the team competed on the diamond.  

“'I’m super proud of the way they fought and competed, and they don't make excuses; they just compete. I think if we clean things up, I think we see a lot of potential in how much better we can be,” Hofheins said. 

The Mavericks will have some time off during their spring break and will be back at it for a weekend series against Wenatchee on April 17.
