Patrols to address speeding near Westshore Drive
EPHRATA – In the Grant County Commissioners meeting Tuesday, Public Works staff advised the Commission that speeding has been an issue throughout the county, specifically on Westshore Drive in Moses Lake.
Concerns were raised about a lack of patrolling during nighttime and on weekends, especially while construction is going on in the area. This has raised safety concerns for residents and construction crews on that street.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman, in a separate interview, said the sheriff’s office will increase patrolling in the area. Nighttime deputies have been asked to spend more time in the area in order to address the issue of speeding motorists in the area.
According to Foreman, speeding has been an issue in the area for a long time.
“The homes on the water side of Westshore are really close to the road. There's a lot of houses down there and kids,” Foreman said.
The area does have a history of collisions, including a few fatalities that Foreman said he could recall. GCSO’s goal moving forward is to increase safety in that area for anyone traveling along Westshore Drive and nearby areas.
