Bridge 247 replacement to begin this year

MOSES LAKE – Grant County Public Works is anticipating ramping up plans to replace Bridge 247, which has been down since February 2024. In the Grant County Commissioners meeting Tuesday, Public Works staff shared that a Department of Transportation grant was approved and the project could now move forward.

According to Grant County Commissioner Kevin Burgess, applying for the grant has been an ongoing process, but WashDOT has agreed to cover the cost of replacing the bridge. The cost of the bridge totals $4.9 million.  

“I think they had planned on replacing that bridge anyway, and so it was in the works, and there was a grant to do it, but when the bridge got damaged so badly that we had to remove the whole thing, that put us in a quandary because once you remove a bridge, the grant money could have went away,” he said.  

Burgess anticipates the completion of this project to take at least a year, but it will depend on what the plans are for Grant County Public Works, which are not yet finalized. Detour plans for the area of the bridge will likely remain in place.
