Othello Middle School threat deemed not credible
OTHELLO — An alleged threat against McFarland Middle School and specific students at the campus reported Thursday was not credible, according to an Adams County Sheriffs Office press release.
The threat was “believed to stem from unresolved gang activity that occurred over the past weekend in (Adams County) between two rival gangs,” the release said.
The families of the potential targets were notified of the incident, the release said. ACSO, the Othello Police Department and Othello School District started an immediate investigation.
“Several juveniles were contacted, including the primary individual suspected of instigating the threat. After a thorough investigation, it was determined that the threat is not credible at this time,” the release said.
“(OPD) is aware of the situation and will increase its presence around the schools, with deputies from (ACSO) providing additional support,” it said.
