Basin events for October 2024

COLUMBIA BASIN — The leaves are falling; the air is getting nippier and there’s some fun stuff to do this month in the Columbia Basin. Here are just a few of the events coming up in the next month. 

Sept. 28 

UMANI Festival 

UMANI is a major community-wide collaboration between individuals and many of the largest cultural institutions in our area to celebrate our community’s Hispanic heritage. Free activities include access to a low rider car show and hop off, music, barbers, artists, creative workshops, crafts and games for families, resource booths, vendors, food trucks and a beer garden. Noon to 6 p.m. at Sinkiuse Square, 216 W. Third Ave, Moses Lake. 

Down Syndrome Buddy Walk 

More than a walk, this is a celebration of the people in our community with Down syndrome. Music, dancing, activities, food and games precede the walk. 2:30 p.m. at McCosh Park, Moses Lake. Info: 360-903-3201. 

Celebration of Harvest and Culture 

The Quincy Valley Historical Society and Museum will recognize the many cultures that settled and live in the Quincy Valley, and the agriculture that forms an important part of its economy, with a festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum, 415 F St. SW. People can learn about pioneer life and go on a hayride; there will be crafts for children and live music. A parade of flags representing the heritage of Quincy pioneers and current residents is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. 

Second Annual Party for the Paws 

Adams County Pet Rescue will have its second annual celebration and fundraiser including a yappy hour, chow time, dessert dash and a live auction. The tickets are one for $30 and two for $50. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. at the Adams County Fair Grounds, 831 Reynolds Road, Othello.  

Almira Country Fair 

Parade, kids’ activities, firemen’s breakfast, pickleball and bean bag tournaments, community dinner and bingo. All day at Lions Club Park, Almira. Info: almiracountryfair@gmail.com. 

Imagine Dragons 

Grammy award-winning rock band known for the songs “Radioactive,” “It’s Time,” “Demons” and “Believers,” among others. 7 p.m. at the Gorge Amphitheatre, 754 Silica Road, Quincy. Info: www.livenationentertainment.com.  

Oct. 4-5 

The ultimate tribute band festival celebrates the iconic music of the ’90s, featuring electrifying tributes to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and much more. Grab your flannel shirt and get ready to rock out like it’s 1999! Overnight camping and VIP options available. Must be 21 or older. Grant County Fairgrounds, 3953 Airway Drive NE, Moses Lake. Luke Combs 

Country superstar and two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year Luke Combs performs two nights, joined by Parker McCollum, Wyatt Flores and Ray Fulcher. 6:25 p.m. both nights at the Gorge Amphitheatre, 754 Silica Road, Quincy. Info: www.livenationentertainment.com.  

Oct. 5 

Always Olivia Tribute 

Singer Annie Aiello performs a tribute to five decades of music by Olivia Newton-John. Sponsored by Columbia Basin Allied Arts. 7 p.m. at Big Bend Community College, 7662 Chanute St., Moses Lake. Info: www.cba-arts.org. 

Oct. 5 

Mennonite Country Auction 

A family-friendly event. Many incredible quilts and other handicrafts will be offered for auction as well as specialty meats, cheeses, pies, apple butter, fresh-pressed apple cider and homemade ice cream. Many craft and bargain booths as well. Proceeds support Mennonite world relief efforts. 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Menno Mennonite Church, 1378 N. Damon Road, Ritzville (south of Wheeler Road about halfway between Ritzville and Moses Lake). Info: mennonitecountryauction.org. 

Oct. 12 

Crossroads Pregnancy Center banquet  

Fundraiser dinner to support Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center in Moses Lake and Ephrata. Speaker is author and recording artist Steventhen Holland. 6 p.m. at the Grant County Fairgrounds, 3953 Airway Drive NE, Moses Lake. Info: pregnancywa.org. 

Oct. 17 

Molly in the Mineshaft 

Concert featuring a mixture of traditional folk styles including Celtic, bluegrass and blues. The Utah-based septet wields an array of instruments including mandolin, banjo, guitar, cello, fiddle and bagpipes, backing up three vocalists’ harmonies. 7 p.m. at the Wallenstien Theater, 6989 College Pkwy NE, Moses Lake. 

Oct. 19 

Ephrata Wine Walk 

The Ephrata Chamber of Commerce invites those 21 and older to join them for some spooky fun with a Halloween-themed wine walk. Swing into the Ephrata Recreation Center to receive a glass, drink card and map before heading out for the walk. Once you’re done, rejoin the fun at the ERC for food, a chance to purchase featured wines and live music. Tickets are $50 online or the day of the event. Designated driver tickets are $30 and include dinner and non-alcoholic beverages. T-shirts are available for pre-order. Yotes at Moses Lake taproom 

Yotes combines his rich baritone vocals with an energetic delivery, playing a mix of songs from 1950s country, 1980s neo-rockabilly, modern Americana, and many genres and eras in between. He mixes songs by Johnny Cash, The Stray Cats, The Blasters, and Murder By Death with his own compositions. 6 p.m. at Moses Lake taproom, 530 W. Valley Road. Info: moseslaketaproom.com. 

Oct. 20 

Moses Lake Half-Marathon 

Runners start at Blue Heron Park, head north along the coast of Moses Lake for 6.6 miles and turn around to the finish. All registered participants receive custom custom-designed T-shirt, Moses Lake Half-Marathon coaster and hand towel. Finishers receive custom forged medal. Winner receives the Blue Heron award and gift card to Michael's on the Lake. 8 a.m. at Blue Heron Park, Moses Lake. Info: 708-668-5488. 

Oct. 26 

Harvest Festival 

Downtown Moses Lake transforms into a hub of autumnal delight at the annual Harvest Fest. This beloved community event promises a day filled with laughter, creativity, and heartwarming memories that will leave you embracing the spirit of the season. 2-5 p.m. on Third Avenue in downtown Moses Lake. Moravida festival 

Moravida Festival is a vibrant celebration of life inspired by the rich traditions of Dia de los Muertos. There will be family-friendly activities, live entertainment, engaging children's crafts, diverse food vendors, and much more. This event is open to all and free to attend. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Grant County Fairgrounds, 3953 Airway Drive NE, Moses Lake. Info: www.gcfairgrounds.com.
