Columbia Ridge staff recognized for life-saving efforts
EPHRATA — The Ephrata School District announced last week that it had recognized six staff for their heroic efforts to help a Columbia Ridge Elementary student who had begun choking on campus, according to an Ephrata Schools press release.
Jody Clark, Ali Mantese, Gary Kelpec, Joyce Suarez, Pam Cleveringa and Ali Heer came to the student’s aid when they noticed the child was unable to breathe. The group kept the incident under control and utilized the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge a blockage in the child’s airway.
"Our staff’s actions demonstrate what it truly means to be reliably excellent for our students," said Superintendent Ken Murray. "In moments of crisis, their quick thinking and calm response reflect the deep commitment we have to the safety and well-being of every child in our care. We are incredibly proud to have such dedicated individuals on our team."
