MOSES LAKE — On Thursday, Moses Lake School District released two statements about potential threats at Vanguard Academy and Frontier Middle School.

“Ensuring student and staff safety is our first priority,” Interim Superintendent Carol Lewis said. “In both situations, school administrators received reports that someone may be planning to bring a weapon to school. Administrators worked with law enforcement to assess the credibility of the reports and to take any necessary action under Moses Lake School Board Policy and Procedure 3241.”

The first statement was for a student to possibly bring a weapon to Vanguard Academy last Friday. The second regarded a conversation that was heard between two other students who said they were possibly going to bring a weapon to school Thursday.

Both were determined to not be a threat, but Lewis said there is increased police presence in the schools Friday.

“In these cases, and in most cases involving minor children, specific details about actions taken are not shared,” Lewis said.
