MOSES LAKE — The results are in, and the Grant County Democrats have announced the winners of the Count the Candy game at the Grant County Fair.

The game involves a tea jug set up at the Grant County Democrats’ booth at the fair, filled with patriotic candies, according to an email from the organization. Youngsters were invited to guess the number of candies in the jug, which this year was 474. The winner would receive the jar of candy as well as a Super Soaker water gun, a small dinosaur water gun, a Bubble Blaster and a lighted bubble dispenser.

First prize went to 6-year-old Briggs Booth, according to the announcement, whose guess was only one off at 475. Because Briggs was visiting the fair from Murray, Utah, with his family, the prizes were mailed to him, with the exception of the jar itself, which was too big to mail easily. Instead, Briggs received large bags of Skittles and Life Savers Gummies.

The jar went to the second-place winner, Kyra Kaler, 19, of Ephrata, who guessed 476, according to the announcement. She also received a Bubble Blaster, a lighted bubble dispenser and a Super Soaker water gun.

The third-place winner was 9-year-old Dean Wilson, who guessed 479, according to the announcement. His prizes were a Bubble Blaster, a Nerf gun and a lighted bubble dispenser, with a few pinwheels thrown in.

This year’s entries numbered in the hundreds, according to the announcement, the highest turnout yet for the game. All players received a gift for playing, including pinwheels, fans, bubble bottles and paper airplanes, all in patriotic colors. The Grant County Democrats also distributed ice water and cookies free to the public at the fair.

Kyra Kaler, 19, of Ephrata had the second-closest guess in the Grant County Democrats’ Count the Candy contest at the Grant County Fair. She received water and bubble guns and also the jar of candy, which was to bulky to mail to the first-place winner.
