Sip & Stroll returns Sept. 14
MOSES LAKE — Glasses will clink, music will waft through the street and downtown Moses Lake will celebrate at Sip & Stroll Sept. 14.
The annual event, sponsored by the Downtown Moses Lake Association, pairs downtown businesses with regional wineries (plus a few cideries and a distiller) in a big street party on Third Avenue. Several of the businesses will have musicians performing as well.
The event has grown a lot since last year, said DMLA Director Mallory Miller.
“Last year, Sip & Stroll only had 13 locations,” Miller said. “And this year we have 22 physical locations, plus the beer garden, which wasn't a thing last year.”
Tickets are $35 each or $65 for a couple and are on sale at the DMLA office downtown or through its website. Each ticket comes with seven tickets good for a taste of a featured beverage, a customized glass, a bag, a map of the event and three raffle tickets.
There are also VIP tickets available for $50 that come with some extra benefits.
“(VIP ticket holders) get extra swag in their bags, and then they get 10 tasting tickets, versus seven,” Miller said. “So they get three extra tasting tickets, and then they get to come an hour early.”
For attendees who want more than just a taste, there will be a beer garden at Sinkiuse Square with full-size servings of beer and wine.
Sip & Stroll is sharing the day with several other events in the downtown area. Art on Third will feature local artists in the parking lot across from the Desert Plaza building at Third Avenue and Alder Street, and the Care Fair, a showcase of local service organizations, will be in the Youth Dynamics building on Third Avenue. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is at McCosh Park that day, and so is the usual Saturday Moses Lake Farmers market. There are also not one but two car shows downtown, Miller said: The Moses Lake Classic Car Club will be on Ash Street and the clock tower, and the Malditos car club will be between Division and Ash streets.
New at Sip & Stroll this year is a shuttle service. Last year there was a limited shuttle that transported tasters to a couple of locations that weren’t right in the downtown core, but this year it’s a little more organized. The shuttle will make a loop about every 10-15 minutes to take passengers to Michael’s Bistro, Skaug Brothers Carpet and C. Michelle’s Salon, which are a few blocks apart.
“So if someone is down at, say, Third Avenue Antiques and they want to go to the Bistro, instead of walking three, three and a half blocks they can just hop on the shuttle,” Miller said.
The shuttle is provided free through one of the event’s sponsors, Miller said.
For attendees who don’t want alcohol, there’s a special designated driver ticket available for $20, Miller said. It comes with the glass and map, and also a few 20-ounce drinks from Mason’s Coffee and a voucher for a meal. A designated driver ticket doesn’t actually obligate the holder to drive anybody anywhere, Miller added; it’s just so that people who are abstaining from alcohol can still join in the fun.
Both general and VIP tickets are still available, Miller said, but they usually don’t last long, so it’s a good idea to buy early. If there are tickets left over on the day of the event, they’ll cost an extra $5.
The DMLA can use some more volunteers to help with the event, Miller said. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact her at 509-770-1700 or by email at director@downtownmoseslake.org.
