Moses Lake man sentenced for shoplifting

EPHRATA – James Douglas Clary, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree theft Aug. 27.  

Clary, previously trespassed from a local Safeway location, went into the business July 9 and shoplifted two cans of Foster’s beer. When Moses Lake Police Department officers eventually found Clary, he admitted to stealing the beers and having previously trespassed from Safeway.  

Clary was then placed under arrest and transported to the Grant County Jail to be booked on second-degree burglary and third-degree theft.  

“I am sorry for my kids and if I would have taken a minute and sat on a bench, I wouldn’t have stolen those beers,” Clary said before sentencing was read.  

Clary was sentenced to one month for count one, second-degree burglary and 364 days for count two, third-degree theft in Grant County Jail by Judge Anna L. Gigliotti. Clary must also complete a substance use evaluation and treatment before Dec. 6 or return to Grant County District Court.
