MARDON — This week Potholes Reservoir has risen from 1,032.26 feet to 1,034.42 feet for a gain of 2.16 feet. Water temp was 51.7 degrees Monday afternoon. With Potholes Canal shutting down for the winter and Moses Lake on schedule to start dropping in the next week the water levels will continue to rise rapidly.

Boos, Bangs and Big Bass

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year. This last week brought us mild temps, falling leaves, falling ducks, costumes and big bass. With The Beach House’s annual Halloween party held Saturday, it was the perfect opportunity for families to get out on Potholes for ducks in the morning, bass in the afternoon and an evening full of laughs.

We have seen a small increase in new birds over the last week. Hunters are reporting better numbers of mallards that are more responsive to calling which is a great indicator of the migration status. The largemouth fishing has remained good. Anglers are finding the bigger largemouth along Perch Point and Medicare Beach.

Walleye — Anglers are picking up good-sized eaters in 15-25 feet of water. To target these eaters, throw half-ounce or five-eighths-ounce Blade baits or No. 7 Jigging Raps along Perch Point, the mouth of Crab Creek and around Goose Island. It's also Jerkbait season for large walleyes, throw a Strike King deep diver J300D in perch pattern along the dam and Goose Island.

Crappie — Anglers are finding it a bit more difficult to locate the larger schools of crappie and are having to work harder than weeks past for their limits. Reports from anglers indicate the schools are breaking up and the crappies are moving deeper. Temps remaining mild this bite should continue to stay in the fair to good range through this next week.
