Janice Fisk
With heavy hearts, our days are less bright since the passing of our mother Oct. 15, 2024. She was 98 years young Sept. 13, 2024. She was born in Goldendale, Wash., on Sept. 13, 1926, to Lynn and Eula (Brunner) Spalding.
She spent her childhood in Goldendale, went to school there and graduated from Goldendale High School. Jan married Kenneth Fisk on Feb. 28, 1946, in an intimate ceremony with family and friends in Goldendale. They enjoyed 74 years of marriage!
Ken worked in construction, learning the carpenter trade. They moved down the Oregon coast to Northern California living in small sawmill towns. Once their first daughter was school-age, they decided they needed to settle somewhere. Mom told us as they were coming across the state to find work, she thought Dad was taking her to the end of the world. It's so very different from Goldendale and the Oregon coast. Ken worked to help build many schools, churches, the hospital, library and other buildings, so they were settled here from 1954.
Ken and Jan built a homestead in Skyline Acres and expanded their family by four more children. The family lived in the house that Ken built for 63 years. This is where our mom worked as a homemaker. In later years, she worked for Layne Construction Co. for several years.
Jan enjoyed being an election worker, doing her civic duty each election by helping fellow voters at the precinct polling site for many years. She was involved in our community by helping with 4-H projects, sewing tap dance costumes, horse club parade costumes and Halloween costumes for us as well as neighborhood children.
Jan enjoyed beach vacations, camping, baking and cooking for her family.
Jan will be missed by many including especially by her five children, Daune (Daniel) Jordan, Mark Fisk, Suzi (Randy) Radach, Jim Fisk, David (Carie) Fisk, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
