Basin football roundup: Week 7
MOSES LAKE – Week 7 of football action across the state didn’t fare local squads well, as only Almira/Coulee-Hartline, Moses Lake, MLCA/CCS and Royal claimed victories on the gridiron this week.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline (6-1, 3-0 NEB)
48-14 win at Wellpinit
The Warriors improved to 3-0 in Northeast 1B play with last Friday’s 48-14 defeat of Wellpinit, as ACH scored all 48 of its points in the first half before riding out to its eventual 34-point win.
ACH ran for 314 yards in the win, led by senior Carter Pitts rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries. Junior Brady Roberts, junior Caden Correia and junior Jameson Conley all also got into the end zone Friday evening.
Defensively, the Warriors held the Wellpinit run game to 12 yards Friday and to 101 passing yards. ACH had six sacks in the win.
The Warriors host Wilbur-Creston-Keller on Friday at 7 p.m.
Ephrata (3-4, 3-3 CWAC)
15-6 loss at Toppenish
Ephrata dropped its fourth consecutive game on Friday night, falling to 3-4 on the season with a 15-6 road loss to Toppenish.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first with a 15-yard interception returned for a touchdown by senior Gabe Nash in the first quarter, though it was their only score of the night. Ephrata held a 6-3 lead at the end of the first half, but the Wildcats scored two second-half touchdowns to pull away with the win.
Junior Tavone Mantese led the Tigers on the ground with 46 yards on 11 carries, while senior Llandon Ahmann caught eight passes for 78 yards against Toppenish.
Ephrata hosts Selah on Friday at 7 p.m.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (3-4, 2-3 NE2B)
35-14 loss vs Northwest Christian (Colbert)
The Broncos found themselves down early in Friday’s game against Northwest Christian (Colbert) and couldn’t dig themselves out of a 28-0 halftime deficit, eventually falling 35-14 to the Crusaders.
Senior Brody Boness scored the first LRS touchdown of the game, scoring on a one-yard rush in the third quarter. Boness carried the ball 43 times for 258 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Senior Carson Kubik caught the other touchdown for LRS, scoring on a three-yard reception in the fourth quarter.
Senior Zach Klein caught four passes for 42 yards and ran for 48 yards on three carries.
LRS travels to Asotin on Friday at 7 p.m.
Moses Lake (6-1, 4-0 CBBN)
40-0 win vs Eastmont
The Mavericks saw both sides of the football excel in Friday night’s 40-0 shutout of Eastmont, allowing Moses Lake to take sole possession of first place in the Columbia Basin Big 9 with just two games remaining in the regular season.
Moses Lake junior Brady Jay completed 22-of-30 passes for 263 yards and five touchdowns in the win, with junior Grant Smith and senior Tommy Ransom Jr. Both hauling in two touchdown catches. Junior Carter Anderson also caught a touchdown, and sophomore Elijah Burns, who led the Mavs on the ground with 168 yards on 17 carries, reached the end zone as well.
The Maverick defense held Eastmont’s run-heavy offense to just 68 yards on Friday night and forced three turnovers in the shutout victory.
Moses Lake travels to West Valley (Yakima) on Friday at 7 p.m.
MLCA/CCS (3-3, 2-1 CWB)
50-28 win vs Waterville-Mansfield
The Lions evened their record at 3-3 with Saturday’s home win over Waterville-Mansfield, giving MLCA/CCS its second league win of the fall.
Junior Johnny Ferguson threw for 106 yards and two interceptions but added 76 yards and four touchdowns on the ground in the win over the Shockers. Senior Levi North paced the Lions on the ground with 109 yards and two scores on nine carries. Sophomore Treyson Kast caught two passes for 78 yards.
MLCA/CCS forced four turnovers in the win, led by North’s two interceptions; Ferguson and Kast also intercepted passes, with Ferguson’s being returned for a touchdown.
Up next for the Lions is a road game against Bridgeport on Friday at 7 p.m.
Othello (6-1, 5-1 CWAC)
26-7 loss at Prosser – statistics not available
Othello’s unbeaten start was erased on Friday night, as the Huskies fell by three scored at home against Prosser. The Huskies still remain atop the CWAC standings with only one league loss, though Toppenish, Prosser, East Valley (Yakima) and Selah sit closely behind with two league losses this season.
The Huskies host Toppenish on Friday at 7 p.m.
Quincy (1-6, 0-6 CWAC)
40-15 loss at Grandview – statistics not available
The Jackrabbits dropped another league contest on Friday night, falling 40-15 on the road against Grandview. Quincy travels to East Valley (Yakima) on Friday at 7 p.m.
Royal (7-0, 6-0 SCAC)
70-0 win at Wahluke
The Knights scored in each phase of the game Friday night against Wahluke, scoring five passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, one punt returned for a touchdown and one defensive touchdown in a shutout win over Wahluke.
Senior Lance Allred completed six-of-seven passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns Friday night, with senior Jackson Larsen leading the Knights in receiving with five catches for 167 yards and three touchdowns. Larsen also returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Dax Jenks led the Knights on the ground with 120 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Senior Santana Luna scored two touchdowns on the ground.
Royal hosts Naches Valley on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Soap Lake (4-2, 2-1 CWB)
58-16 loss vs Entiat
Entiat led the Eagles 50-8 at halftime before finishing the game with a 58-16 win over Soap Lake Friday night.
Soap Lake had five turnovers in the loss, including four lost fumbles.
Sophomore Terrance Panduro led the Eagles with 48 yards on 11 carries, while senior Jairo Lopez and junior Logan Northup both scored rushing touchdowns.
Soap Lake travels to Waterville-Mansfield on Friday at 7 p.m.
Wahluke (2-5, 2-4 SCAC)
70-0 loss vs Royal
Facing a tough team in Royal, the Warriors struggled to move the ball offensively. Wahluke finished the game with just 72 yards of total offense and turned the ball over three times to the Knight defense.
Wahluke travels to Zillah on Friday at 7 p.m.
Warden (5-2, 1-2 EWAC)
47-0 loss at Tri-Cities Prep
The Cougars suffered their second league loss of the season on Saturday night, falling 47-0 to Tri-Cities Prep on the road. In the loss, Warden was held to 139 total yards of offense.
Warden closes the regular season Friday at home against Granger.
