Volleyball roundup: Cougars lead EWAC East
MOSES LAKE — With district playoffs on the horizon, take a look at where local high school volleyball teams check-in on their respective league standings.

Columbia Basin Big 9 (4A)
Moses Lake
Following Tuesday’s road loss against Davis, the Mavericks stand at 6-4 overall this season with a 4-4 mark in the CBBN. The four wins come from a season-sweep of Sunnyside, along with wins over Eisenhower and Eastmont.
Moses Lake’s 4-4 league record has them in fourth place of the standings, behind Wenatchee, Davis and West Valley (Yakima) while ahead of Eastmont, Eisenhower and Sunnyside. The Mavericks hosted the Rams Thursday and travel to Wenatchee on Tuesday.
Central Washington Athletic Conference (2A)
Ephrata
The Tigers stand at 2-4 in CWAC play this season, picking up wins over East Valley (Yakima) and Quincy, both of which were sweeps, while suffering losses to Prosser, Selah, Ellensburg and, most recently, Toppenish on Tuesday. Ephrata sits at sixth in the league standings, one game back of the Wildcats, who defeated the Tigers 3-1 on Tuesday.
Ephrata traveled to Othello Thursday night and host Grandview on Tuesday.
Othello
The Huskies are still seeking their first league win of the season, sitting at 0-5 in CWAC matchups this fall. Othello hosted Ephrata on Thursday and travels to East Valley on Tuesday.
Quincy
Similarly to Othello, the Jacks also stand at 0-5 in the CWAC this fall. Quincy played Selah on Thursday night and travels to Prosser on Tuesday.
South Central Athletic Conference (1A)
Royal
The Knights sit perfectly in the middle of the SCAC standings this season, with a 7-4 record against league opponents. Ahead of the Knights are Cashmere, College Place, Connell and Zillah, while Royal is ahead of Naches Valley, Wapato, Wahluke and Kiona-Benton. Royal swept Wahluke on Tuesday, hosted Zillah Thursday and hosts Connell on Saturday.
Wahluke
The Warriors hold one league win this season, having defeated Kiona-Benton 3-2 on Sept. 26. Wahluke, who checks in at eighth in the SCAC league standings, played College Place on Thursday and hosts Naches Valley on Tuesday.
Northeast 2B (2B)
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague
The defending 2B State Volleyball Tournament runner-up Broncos have played strong so far this regular season, beginning the year with a 12-1 record and checking in at third in the Northeast 2B league. LRS’s lone loss this year came to league-leading Freeman, where the Scotties swept the Broncos on Oct. 3. Since the loss, the Broncos have responded with wins over Odessa, Asotin, Colfax and Upper Columbia.
After Thursday’s match against Liberty (Spangle), the Broncos host a rematch of last season’s title game Saturday, playing the Manson Trojans at 3:45 p.m.
Eastern Washington Athletic Conference (East) (2B)
Warden
After beginning the season 2-5, the Cougars have rattled off seven consecutive wins to improve to 9-5 ahead of Thursday’s game against River View, including a 7-0 mark in EWAC East matchups. Warden’s most recent win came Thursday, sweeping Mabton at home.
Following Thursday’s match, the Cougars only have two games remaining in the regular season; at Tri-Cities Prep on Tuesday and home against Granger on Oct. 24.
Central Washington 1B
Soap Lake
The 10-2 Eagles sit at third in the CWB standings as of Thursday, posting a 6-1 record in league matchups this season. After losing back-to-back matches against Entiat and Waterville-Mansfield, the top two teams in the league, Soap Lake has responded with three consecutive wins over Garden City, Easton and Thorp, all of which were sweeps.
Soap Lake hosts MLCA/CCS on Tuesday and closes the regular season at Wilson Creek on Oct. 24.
MLCA/CCS
The Lions stand tied with Soap Lake at third in the CWB standings, posting a 9-3 overall record and 6-1 record in league matches this fall. MLCA/CCS is riding back-to-back wins over Thorp and Wilson Creek ahead of Thursday’s match against Easton.
MLCA/CCS travels to Soap Lake on Tuesday and hosts Bridgeport in the regular season finale Oct. 24.
Wilson Creek
The Devils, 4-4 in CWB games this fall, check in at sixth in the league standings ahead of Thursday’s game against Thorp. Their most recent match was a 3-1 loss at home against MLCA/CCS.
Wilson Creek travels to Bridgeport and Easton on Monday and Tuesday, then hosts Soap Lake on Oct. 24.
Northeast 1B
Almira/Coulee-Hartline
The 6-3 Warriors post a 6-2 mark in league games this season, finding themselves behind Wilbur-Creston-Keller and Northport for third place in the Northeast 1B league.
ACH has a busy upcoming schedule; after playing Vallery Christian on Thursday, the Warriors play Mary Walker on Saturday, WCK on Tuesday, Waterville-Mansfield on Oct. 24 and Odessa on Oct. 26.
