Gridiron Roundup: local squads continue to win

MOSES LAKE – Eight of the 11 teams from the Columbia Basin boast winning records through the first five games of the 2024 season, led by Othello and Royal continuing their unbeaten starts with wins over East Valley (Yakima) and Cashmere, respectively. 

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 
(4-1, 3-0 NEB) 

52-14 win over Mary Walker 

The Warriors stayed unbeaten in conference games with Friday night’s win over Mary Walker, scoring 22 points in the second quarter and 24 points in the third to ride out to a 52-14 win over the visiting Chargers. 

Senior Carter Pitts led ACH in rushing with 149 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, while junior Caden Correia, junior Brady Roberts, senior Kayle Casimir and sophomore Brody Pitts (twice) all reached the end zone in the win. Senior Jameson Conley also caught a touchdown in the win. 

ACH hosts Columbia (Stevens) on Friday at 7 p.m. 

Ephrata
(3-2, 3-1 CWAC)  

24-17 loss to Davis 

Ephrata took its second loss in as many weeks Friday night, falling 21-14 to visiting Davis (4A) after the Pirates scored 17 unanswered points in the second half. 

The Tigers held a 14-7 advantage after the first quarter with a 25-yard touchdown catch by junior Hunter Mills and an 18-yard run by junior Brady Hendrick, later going up 17-7 on a field goal by junior Caleb Moberg in the second quarter. However, Davis scored 10 points in the final frame to claim a 24-17 win. 

Hendrick completed 10-of-19 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown and also led the team in rushing with 117 yards and a score on 16 attempts. Senior Llandon Ahmann hauled in six catches for 58 yards. 

Ephrata hosts Othello on Saturday at 6 p.m. 

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague
(3-2, 2-2 NE2B) 

21-14 loss at Jenkins (Chewelah) 

After going down 14-0 to the Cougars in the first quarter, LRS battled back to tie the game at 14 in the third quarter on a 61-yard touchdown run by senior Brody Boness; however, Jenkins scored on a 9-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to take a 21-14 win over the Broncos on Friday night. 

Boness led the team with 132 yards and a score on 18 rushing attempts Friday night, with senior Zach Klein adding a touchdown in the second quarter on a one-yard rush. 

LRS hosts Warden on Friday at 7 p.m. 

Moses Lake
(4-1, 3-0 CBBN) 

49-0 win at Eisenhower 

Moses Lake clinched its fourth straight win in dominant fashion Friday night, shutting out Eisenhower in a 49-0 road win over the Cadets. 

Junior Brady Jay completed 34-of-43 passes for 400 yards and six touchdowns, with junior Grant Smith catching 11 passes for 148 yards and three scores. Junior Carter Anderson, junior Hudson Palmer, senior Tommy Ransom and senior Calin Dameron also caught touchdowns in the win. 

The Mavericks host Post Falls (Idaho) in a non-league matchup Friday at 7 p.m.

Othello
(5-0, 4-0 CWAC) 
 

26-13 win over East Valley (Yakima) 

The Huskies remained unbeaten with Friday’s 26-13 defeat of the Red Devils, picking up another conference win to improve to 4-0 in the CWAC this fall. 

After East Valley scored on its opening drive, the Huskies locked down on defense to hold the Red Devils to just six points the rest of the game – all of which came from field goals, which were both in the second half. Othello senior Jordan DeLeon scored three touchdowns in the win, the last of which pushed the Huskie lead to two scores late in the fourth quarter. 

Othello travels to Ephrata for a league matchup Saturday at 6 p.m. 

Quincy
(1-4, 0-4 CWAC) 

58-0 loss at Prosser – statistics not available 

The Jacks fell on the road against Prosser on Friday night, dropping to 0-4 in CWAC matchups this fall; Quincy returns to the field Friday at home against Ellensburg. 

Royal
(5-0, 5-0 SCAC) 

55-14 win at Cashmere 

Royal senior quarterback Lance Allred accounted for more than 400 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns in Friday’s road win against the Bulldogs, completing 19-of-21 passes for 283 yards and four scores while adding 144 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries on the ground.  

Senior Santana Luna rushed for 64 yards on seven carries in the win while also catching three passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Jackson Larsen led the Knights in receiving with 94 yards and a touchdown on seven catches. Junior Deme Holman also caught a touchdown in the win. 

Royal hosts Prosser in a non-league matchup Friday at 7 p.m. 

Soap Lake
(3-1, 1-0 CWB) 

54-6 win at Pateros 

The Eagles ran for 239 yards in Thursday’s win over Pateros, led by senior Kyle Ayers running for 132 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries in the win. Senior Jairo Lopez completed six-of-eight passes for 89 yards and four touchdowns, with senior Ruvim Goloborodko and junior Logan Northup both catching two scores. 

Soap Lake travels to Oroville on Friday at 5 p.m. 

Wahluke
(2-3, 2-2 SCAC) 

24-8 loss at Granger 

The Warriors struggled to move the ball in Friday’s loss to Granger, being held to under 100 yards of offense in a 24-8 loss. Junior Keaton Zirker scored the lone Wahluke touchdown in the loss on a short run, with senior Franco Perez adding the two-point conversion afterward.  

Wahluke hosts College Place on Friday at 7 p.m.

28-6 win vs. River View 

The Cougars ran for 274 yards on Friday night against the Panthers and recorded seven sacks in a 28-6 league win on their home turf. 

Reaching the end zone for the Cougars were junior Rhett Jorgensen, junior Hunter Golladay and senior Elijah Ruiz, while senior Junior Santiago also scored on an interception returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.  

Senior TJ Visker led the Cougars with three sacks and was joined by junior Gustavo Canales (two), senior Malakai Valdez and senior Jonathan Baerholm in getting in the backfield.  

Warden travels to LRS on Friday at 7 p.m.

    The Soap Lake Eagles got back in the win column after defeating Pateros last week, rushing for nearly 300 yards in a 54-6 win.
