WorkSource hosting job, resource fair Friday

MOSES LAKE — The WorkSource Business Service Team invites job seekers to the 2024 Fall Hiring and Resource Event on Oct. 4. Career and Training Manager Emily Anderson said the annual event aims to connect community members with employment opportunities and resources from various sectors. 

The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the WorkSource Central Basin Center, located at 309 E. Fifth Ave., Moses Lake. This year, 35 businesses will participate, showcasing careers in healthcare, office administration, manufacturing, public service and more.  

“We have had a lot of interest from local businesses hoping to participate,” said Anderson in a Wednesday interview. “We are still receiving registrations from companies, just three days before the event. It’s exciting to see this level of interest from our business community.”  

In addition to employers, nearly 20 community resource partners will provide information about their services just outside the WorkSource Center. This addition enriches the event by offering attendees a broader understanding of available community resources. 

To enhance the experience for attendees, Wize Guys Beefs and Delicias, LLC will be on-site, providing refreshments for those in attendance. The first 75 job seekers aged 16 and older will receive complimentary tickets for either a drink or a food item from Wize Guys Beefs. Not only does this encourage attendance, it also promotes small, locally-owned businesses within the community, Anderson said.  

“Even if someone is not planning to look for work, they can still stop by and purchase food from either vendor,” Anderson said.  

To ensure inclusivity, the WorkSource team has contracted an ASL sign language interpreter to assist attendees with disabilities. Feedback from previous events highlighted the challenges that individuals with hearing loss faced in navigating crowded and noisy environments, and this service aims to improve their experience. 

Job seekers are encouraged to prepare in advance by creating an account at www.worksourcewa.com, bringing copies of their resumes, and dressing to impress. While all participating companies currently have open positions, attendees should also be aware that some employers may prefer digital applications, accessible via QR codes. The resource room within the center will be open throughout the event to assist visitors in processing applications or updating resumes. 

“The best path to success at a job fair is to come prepared,” Anderson said. “It is good to bring your resume but not every company may take them in person; they may prefer that you use a QR code to apply for example.”
