Senior events for October 2024

COLUMBIA BASIN — The summer is finally over and fall activities are in the air. There are a few things seniors in the Basin might enjoy this month: 

Oct. 5 

Mennonite Country Auction 

A family-friendly event. Many incredible quilts and other handicrafts will be offered for auction as well as specialty meats, cheeses, pies, apple butter, fresh-pressed apple cider and homemade ice cream. Many craft and bargain booths as well. Proceeds support Mennonite world relief efforts. 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Menno Mennonite Church, 1378 N. Damon Road, Ritzville (south of Wheeler Road about halfway between Ritzville and Moses Lake). Info: mennonitecountryauction.org


Oct. 12 

Country Dance 

Bring a potluck dish to share and cut a rug to Moses Lake’s own Rocky Ford Band. There is no charge but tips for the band are appreciated. Potluck starts at 5 p.m., dancing from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Moses Lake Senior Center, 608 E. Third Ave. Info: 509-765-7809. 


Crossroads Pregnancy Center banquet  

Fundraiser dinner to support Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center in Moses Lake and Ephrata. Speaker is author and recording artist Steventhen Holland. 6 p.m. at the Grant County Fairgrounds, 3953 Airway Drive NE, Moses Lake. Info: pregnancywa.org


Oct. 17 

Molly in the Mineshaf

Concert featuring a mixture of traditional folk styles including Celtic, bluegrass and blues. The Utah-based septet wields an array of instruments including mandolin, banjo, guitar, cello, fiddle and bagpipes, backing up three vocalists’ harmonies. 7 p.m. at the Wallenstien Theater, 6989 College Pkwy NE, Moses Lake. 


Oct. 19 

The Saddle Rockers 

Concert in the George Coffeehouse Series. The Saddle Rockers, a five-piece band from Wenatchee, bring a blend of bluegrass, country swing and vintage rock music. $5 admission, 12 and under free. There will be a hat-pass for the musicians, and the suggested donation for this is $10-$12 per person. At halftime everyone is invited downstairs for a cookie and coffee break. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. at the George Community Hall, 403 W Montmorency Blvd.. Info: 509-785-3401. 


Ephrata Wine Walk 

The Ephrata Chamber of Commerce invites folks to join them for some spooky fun with a Halloween-themed wine walk. Swing into the Ephrata Recreation Center to receive a glass, drink card and map before heading out for the walk. Once you’re done, rejoin the fun at the ERC for food, a chance to purchase featured wines and live music. Tickets are $50 online or the day of the event. Designated driver tickets are $30 and include dinner and non-alcoholic beverages. T-shirts are available for pre-order. Oct. 26 

Moravida festival 

Moravida Festival is a vibrant celebration of life inspired by the rich traditions of Dia de los Muertos. There will be family-friendly activities, live entertainment, children's crafts, diverse food vendors, and much more. This event is open to all and free to attend. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Grant County Fairgrounds, 3953 Airway Drive NE, Moses Lake. Info: www.gcfairgrounds.com.
