James Robert Grove

James “Jim” R. Grove, 76, of Ephrata, Wash., passed away peacefully in the Spokane Veterans Home on Sept. 28, 2024.  

He was born Sept. 9, 1948, in Pasco, Wash., to Robert and Kaye Grove.  

After graduating from Ephrata High School in 1966, Jim received his business degree in Everett, Wash. James then proudly joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country for four years, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After attending Boot Camp in Lemoore, Calif., James reported to the USS Midway. During his service to his country on the USS Midway, James was a 4th Grade Aviation Electrician in the Vietnam War.  

After his U.S. Navy enlistment ended in 1970, Jim returned to Ephrata, Wash., where he worked in farming both in the field and on the equipment, including working as a foreman for many years.  

James also spent time in Laughlin, Nev., where he enjoyed escaping the winters.  

James was a member of the American Legion #28 ,VFW Post #24 and Gold Prospectors. James is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Wendt-Grove; daughter Chelsey (Cordell) Anderson and grandsons Rhett and Wyatt Anderson. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and various cousins.  

There will be a Memorial Service at Washington State Veterans Cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Parkinson's Foundation or Wounded Warriors Project.
