Harvest Market at fairgrounds tomorrow

MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Farmers Market is having its first harvest market this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Grant County Fairgrounds in the Commercial building.

“At the (regular season) market we try to really focus on the farmers and the produce that we have at the market. So that’s our main focus. It’s a farmers market after all,” Moses Lake Farmers Market Treasurer Katie Laine said. “I would say our off-season markets, they’re a bit different. It’s more of a craft market. We do have some produce there. We do have a couple of farmers who still have produce (to sell). But it’s more of a crafters market than a produce market.”

The market will be full of vendors with flowers, crafts, lotions, candles, jewelry, bags, festive foods, baked goods and more.

“We have something for everybody, really,” Laine said. “We have a variety of things. We try to not oversaturate any one particular area.”

All of the vendors must have created their goods, said Laine. She said the market does not allow multi-level marketing or mass-produced goods.

Another thing the market will be offering is a scavenger hunt with prizes. Last year at the February market, hearts were placed in several booths and children walked around and filled their bingo cards as they found the hidden heart.

“It also helps to bring people into booths because maybe those people wouldn’t necessarily go into that booth, but they go in there looking for a scavenger hunt items, they might take a second look and find something that they like,” Laine said.

The Moses Lake Farmers Market will also have four more markets on Dec. 7, Feb. 8, March 15 and April 5. Last year there were only three off-season markets. Then the market will return to its seasonal market in May.

“It’s a great opportunity for people to come out in the community, support local small businesses and local makers and just have a good time,” Laine said. “I think people could come out even if they are not shopping, it’s just a great opportunity to come out and kids can have fun doing the scavenger hunt, maybe have lunch and make an afternoon of it.”
