Applications sought for GCFD 8 commissioner
MATTAWA — Applications are being accepted through Dec. 6 for an open seat on the Grant County Fire District 8 commission. The goal is to appoint a new commissioner at the Dec. 9 meeting.
The person appointed will replace longtime commissioner Richard Kummer, who resigned for health reasons. Kummer has been on the commission since 2012.
“Really, really great contributions to the district,” GCFD 8 Secretary Barbara Davis said.
Candidates can live anywhere in the fire district, which includes Desert Aire and the city of Mattawa. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older.
Prior experience in emergency services, the fire service or public administration is beneficial but not required, according to GCFD 8 press release. All the current commissioners are or were firefighters, EMTs or ambulance drivers, some as a job and others as volunteers.
Applicants are asked to submit a letter of interest with contact information, a short statement explaining their interest and any relevant experience or qualifications. Letters can be mailed to GCFD 8, c/o district secretary, 20643 Road 22.5 SW, Mattawa, WA 99349. Letters of interest also can be dropped off at the main fire station at the Road 22.5 SW address or emailed to barb@gcfd8.net.
The new commissioner will fill the position through the next general election for the commission in November 2025, according to the Grant County Auditor’s Office.
