| November 15, 2024 1:55 PM

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfredo “Freddy” Garibay Garza, 66, who unexpectedly passed away Oct. 27, 2024. Freddy was born Oct. 7, 1958, in Hollis, Okla., to Arnulfo R. and Mary O. Garibay Garza who first moved to Moses Lake in 1954.

Freddy grew up in Moses Lake and graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1977.

At the early age of 13, Freddy learned to play the drums and later became a lead singer for the very popular regional band “Los Tremendos” out of Moses Lake. As the drummer and a lead singer for the band, they toured all around the Pacific Northwest and the country including Oregon, California, Idaho, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and many other states. Because of his rare musical talent and the ability to play the drums and sing at the same time, crowds of aficionados would circle around his drums at dances and concerts to watch him play and sing. Freddy’s talent in music did not stop with the drums however; he was also an accomplished button accordion player; he mastered the keyboards, the electric bass, guitar and the saxophone. Freddy was an accomplished songwriter, music composer and a music recording engineer. He had several songs and musical instrumentals published and recorded during his career. Freddy founded “Flamingo Recording Studios” and a music publishing company in Amarillo, Texas, his adopted city where he lived for the last 35 years.

Freddy also retired from the City of Amarillo, Texas, where he worked for many years.

Freddy was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister and his wife. Freddy’s talent and passion for music will be deeply missed. A celebration of life and a memorial will be held for Freddy in Amarillo, Texas, for family and friends.
