Basin Football Roundup: Week 9

MOSES LAKE — Three local teams won outright league titles with wins last week, as Moses Lake, Othello and Royal each celebrated winning their respective leagues. 

Almira/Coulee-Hartline (7-2, 4-1 NEB) 

58-14 win vs Odessa 

The Warriors trailed 14-12 at the end of the first quarter against Odessa on Friday night, then rang off 46 consecutive points to claim a 58-14 win over the Tigers at home. 

ACH ran for 399 yards in the win, led by junior Caden Correia gaining 133 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 13 carries. Behind Correia was junior Brady Roberts (79 yards and a touchdown on six carries), senior Carter Pitts (76 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries) and junior Harvest Parrish (60 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. 

Correia completed three of eight passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Parrish caught a pass for a 31-yard score, while Pitts caught the other touchdown pass on a 30-yard reception. 

ACH hosts Dayton in a crossover game Friday. 

Ephrata (4-5, 4-4 CWAC)  

39-13 loss at Grandview 

After taking a 13-0 lead in the second quarter on a 9-yard run by junior Brady Hendrick, Grandview scored six touchdowns to come back and defeat Ephrata 39-13 on Thursday night. The loss eliminated Ephrata from state playoff contention. 

Ephrata turned the ball over four times in the loss; throwing three interceptions and losing one fumble. The Tigers gained 348 yards of offense in the loss, throwing for 197 and rushing for 151. Senior Elijah Chavez-Mabry led the Tigers with 78 yards on 17 attempts on the ground, while senior Coltyn Klingenberg caught five passes for 64 yards. 

Ephrata will play Ellensburg at home Friday at 6 p.m. The game will go down as a non-league matchup. The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 9-6 on the road earlier this season. 

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (3-6, 2-5 NE2B) 

20-0 loss vs Freeman 

The Broncos were shut out of Friday’s home game against Freeman, the team’s final league game of the 2024 season. Friday’s loss was the fifth consecutive loss for LRS. 

The run-heavy Bronco offense was limited to just 114 yards on Friday, 104 of which came from senior Brody Boness. LRS also turned the ball over five times in the loss, throwing four interceptions and losing one fumble. 

LRS travels to Riverside for its season finale at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. 

Moses Lake (8-1, 6-0 CBBN) 

57-6 win vs Davis 

The Mavericks clinched the Columbia Basin Big 9 league championship with Friday’s dominant win over Davis, defeating the Pirates 57-6 at Lions Field to end the regular season.  

Junior Brady Jay completed 17-of-18 passes for 222 yards and six touchdowns in the win, with sophomore Elijah Burns and junior Carter Anderson both hauling in two touchdown catches. Junior Carson Huberdeau and senior Tommy Ransom were also on the receiving end of touchdowns in the win. 

Freshman John Rainey blocked a punt, intercepted a pass and returned a fumble for a touchdown in the win. Senior Isaiah Moreno-Jackson returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown.  

Moses Lake advances to the state crossover on Saturday, where they will play either Kamiakin or Lewis & Clark at home at 1 p.m. 

MLCA/CCS (5-3, 4-1 CWB) 

32-22 win at Soap Lake 

The Lions found themselves down early on the road against Soap Lake on Friday night, but rallied to secure a berth into the Round of 16 of the 1B State Football Playoffs.  

Tied at 14 near the end of the first half, the Lions marched down the field to score on a 6-yard touchdown catch by sophomore Treyson Kast. After Soap Lake retook the lead in the third quarter, MLCA/CCS responded with two fourth-quarter scoring drives to take the 32-22 win. 

Senior Levi North led the Lions in rushing with 116 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Junior Johnny Ferguson completed seven-of-14 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown, rushing for 95 yards and two touchdowns on five attempts. 

MLCA/CCS travels to Oroville on Thursday at 7 p.m. 

Othello (8-1, 7-1 CWAC)  

63-3 win at Quincy – statistics not available 

The Huskies clinched the outright Central Washington Athletic Conference league title with Friday’s win over the Jackrabbits and will host Rogers (Spokane) in the 2A state crossover Saturday at 2 p.m. 

Quincy (1-8, 0-8 CWAC)  

63-3 loss vs Othello – statistics not available 

Quincy wrapped up its league schedule with Friday’s home loss to the Huskies. As of Monday afternoon, the Jackrabbits do not have a Week 10 game scheduled. 

Royal (9-0, 8-0 SCAC)  

76-0 win at Wapato 

The Knights won their 11th consecutive South Central Athletic Conference league championship on Friday with a 76-0 win over Wapato, leading the Wolves 35-0 at the end of the first quarter and 63-0 at halftime.  

Royal scored four defensive touchdowns on Friday night, as sophomore Grant Wardenaar, senior Nathan Niebla, junior Shea Stevenson and sophomore Dax Jenks all returned interceptions for touchdowns in the win. 

Senior Lance Allred completed four of six passes for 83 yards and three touchdowns, with senior Benson Jenks, senior Caden Fitzhugh and Stevenson all catching touchdowns.  Senior Santana Luna ran for 139 yards and two scores on five carries in the win. 

Royal hosts Klahowya in the 1A state crossover Friday at 5:30 p.m. 

Soap Lake (4-4, 2-3 CWB)  

32-22 loss vs MLCA/CCS 

The Eagles scored touchdowns on their first two offensive drives Friday against MLCA/CCS, but slowed down in the final three quarters before falling 32-22 to the Lions. Friday’s loss eliminated the Eagles from the state playoffs. 

Senior Jairo Lopez completed eight of 16 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown, adding 83 yards and a score on 15 carries on the ground. Junior Logan Northup caught five passes for 82 yards and a touchdown in the loss. 

Soap Lake hosts Bridgeport on Thursday at 7 p.m. to wrap up the 2024 season. 

Wahluke (2-7, 2-6 SCAC)  

41-0 loss at Connell – statistics not available 

Wahluke finished its league schedule with a shutout loss on the road against Connell. The Warriors did not have a Week 10 game schedule as of Monday afternoon. 

Warden (5-4, 1-3 EWAC East) 

30-0 loss at Kittitas – statistics not available 

Warden fell 30-0 on the road in the Eastern Washington Athletic Conference district crossover on Saturday, and will take on Okanogan in a winner-to-state matchup Friday at 7 p.m. 

    Moses Lake won the Columbia Basin Big 9 after defeating Davis 57-6 at home Friday night. The Mavericks have won eight straight games.
