Maverick softball wins league title
EAST WENATCHEE — Moses Lake clinched the Columbia Basin Big 9 softball league title with Friday’s 2-1 road win over Eastmont, locking up home-field advantage in next weekend’s Big 9 district tournament.
Eastmont scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning, as Wildcat junior Elizabeth Heinz drove in a run to give Eastmont a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short-lived, with Moses Lake tying the ball game in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by senior Emmie Olsen. In the top of the fifth inning, senior Mikayla Schwartz hit an RBI single that sent home fellow senior Raegen Hofheins, giving the Mavs a 2-1 lead that they held on to win the first game of Friday’s doubleheader.
Even with a loss in the second game — a 15-4 Wildcat win headlined by an eight-run bottom of the first inning — Moses Lake will play at home in the CBBN district championship game May 18. The winner advances to the 4A State Softball Tournament in Richland, while the loser will play the winner of Saturday’s play-in game.
