EPHRATA — Ephrata High School Principal Aaron Cummings has been named the district’s new assistant superintendent, according to a press release from the district. The selection comes as Assistant Superintendent Ken Murray looks to assume the role of interim superintendent for the 2024-25 school year.

“We received applications from a large group of well-qualified applicants,” said Murray. “Our selection committee agreed that Aaron was the clear choice to be our next assistant superintendent. His deep commitment to Ephrata Schools is evident in his years of service to our kids and community,” Murray said in the press release.

Cummings brings more than 33 years of experience serving the Ephrata School District as a teacher, assistant principal and principal, with the last 21 years served in administration within the district. His history of working on district-wide projects highlighted his qualifications during the hiring process.

Cummings will finish the school year in his current position at EHS and assume his new duties in early July. Candidates will be able to begin applying for the high school principal position April 8, following Spring Break.

Cummings said he was honored to take on the new role and was excited to serve the district as he settles into that position.

“I’m looking forward to bringing my experiences and passion for student success into this new role and to work collaboratively with leadership, educators and the community. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue making a positive impact on students’ lives at a district level,” Cummings said.

Outgoing Superintendent Tim Payne, who is retiring due to health and family concerns, said he’s excited for Cummings to move into a position to help the school district continue to succeed.

“Aaron brings a wealth of experience and institutional knowledge into this new role,” said Payne in the press release. “He has always been a strong advocate for students and staff. He knows our community and has the trust and relationships needed to be successful. He’s absolutely the right person for the job.”

Murray said he was sure Cummings would make a positive impact in the new role.

“Aaron has the background, dedication and experience in Ephrata to hit the ground running in this important role. I am excited to work with him and make a positive difference together,” Murray said.
