Donald Ness

| March 11, 2024 3:05 PM

On March 2, 2024, while lying in his hospital bed, Donald Ness said goodbye to his loved ones here on earth and went to join his loved ones who had gone before him as the gentle falling snow fell outside his window.

Don was born to Henry and Nelda (Bell) Ness in Kalispell, Mont. At the age of 10, his family moved to Spokane, Wash. He enjoyed his youth following and helping his dad around the dairy farm, teasing his two older sisters and being your typical boy. He graduated from Central Valley High School in 1965 and departed for Washington State University for the next four years. He was between Johnson and Troy Hall walking to class when he met Mary, his future wife. He made many journeys to court her.

Don had a busy year in 1969. He graduated with a degree in Food Science, got married and moved to Bellevue, Wash., to start a career at the Safeway Milk Plant. Management was impressed with his hard work, so, Don was offered a promotion to further his career, in Denver, Colo. With a new son and wife, they packed and moved. While living in the Centennial State, his family grew to a total of five children. When a new milk plant opened in Moses Lake offering a promotion to quality control supervisor, Don and Mary jumped at the opportunity to be closer to their families and came back to the Northwest. Serving Safeway faithfully at the milk plant for many years, they closed their doors and Don finished his working days at Simplot and Walmart.

His smiles, jokes, laughs and kindness will always be remembered. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children, Raymond (Janet) Ness, Jonathan (Marcia) Ness, Alice Ness, William (Barbara) Ness, Rosemary (Kirk) Wells, eight grandchildren, Mackenzie (Marshall) Miller, Ethan Ness, Rebekah Ness, Kaitlyn Ness, Jonah Ness, Camryn Ness, Henry Ness and Christina Ness, his two sisters, Nancy (Mack) Rodgers and Judy Adams.

We invite you to join us and celebrate Don's life at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at St. Martins Episcopal Church, 416 E. Nelson Road, Moses Lake, Wash. Feel free to wear crimson and gray in memory of a true and loyal Cougar.
