Russell Henry Porterfield Jr.
Russ was born July 20, 1961, at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, Calif. After a long battle, he has succumbed to the crippling effects of Frontal Temporal Dementia and has now gone to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the date of March 6, 2024. He was 62 years old.
Russ is survived by his first love in life, his five daughters: Allyson and husband Kellen Roberts, Katherynn Lindhag, Nicole and husband Zachary White, Danielle and her husband Fernando Brome, and the youngest, Miranda Porterfield. He also loved and cherished his nine grandchildren, Makyla, Aiden, Xander, Gabi, Jayden, Evan, Sabian, Mason and Daxton, along with his mother Melody, sister Julie and brothers James and Christopher.
Russ enjoyed many activities and was a very enthusiastic outdoorsman. Camping, fishing, hunting, building and farming were among his normal seasonal ventures.
Some highlights would be, commercial fishing with his father and two brothers in Alaska on their fishing boat the Apachee II. Sailing across the Queen Charlette Straights in Canada, bagging deer, elk, geese, ducks and other critters in Eastern Washington, and raising cattle, pigs, goats and chickens on his various properties. He was extremely talented with anything mechanical and could make any type of engine run — eventually.
He was an avid music lover and would often travel long distances to see a good concert. He played piano as a teenager and at one point started a band with his friend Dan. He would sing to his daughters often when they were young and on the fly change the lyrics to be more appropriate for their ages.
Above all, Russ had a very strong relationship with God and would pray for us all in his way to help make sense of a world that was sometimes cruel and hard to cope with.
He sits now at the right hand of the Lord and sings out “Wooo Hooo” when seeing how we love to think of him and all he stood for. He will be missed by many and loved by all who know him.
We welcome you to join us at a service to celebrate Russ and his joyous life. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Lake City Four Square Church at 333 N. Central Drive, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
