Jake Watterson

| June 17, 2024 12:17 PM

Jake Watterson passed away June 11, 2024, at the age of 87.  His serious battle with colon cancer in recent years showed his courage in facing this terrible illness.

He was born Feb. 24, 1937, in Ellensburg, Wash., to Mary and Jake Watterson Sr. He was the youngest of five children born to the Watterson family. He graduated from high school in 1956 and served in the Merchant Marines for two years.

He met and married Mary Zickler on March 30, 1957. They were married for 67 years and had three children, David (Sunni) Watterson, Eric Watterson and Susan (John) Hohman. He was a proud grandfather of Mitchell and Abbey Hohman and great-grandfather to Noa Hohman.

Jake was a parts man and manager of Ross Automotive and the Grant County PUD for over 25 years. After his retirement, Jake continued to pursue his great passion for hunting and fishing and following his favorite Gonzaga Bulldogs. Even more importantly, he made time to attend his grandson’s basketball games, his granddaughter’s volleyball games and their graduations from high school and college.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Jake Sr., and his son, David.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sibling Neil Watterson; children Eric Watterson; Susan (John) Hohman; and grandchildren Mitchell (Jazelda) Hohman, Abbey Hohman and great-granddaughter Noa Hohman.

As per my father’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. I invite you to please privately celebrate Jake’s memory in your own way. Thank you for all your understanding during this difficult time.
