Single-vehicle crash in Moses Lake claims life
MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man is dead and another is in jail after a single-vehicle collision in the wee hours of Friday morning, according to a statement from Moses Lake Police Chief David Sands.
Samuel Asher West, 20, is lodged at Grant County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, according to the statement.
Officers were dispatched about 1:20 a.m. to a report of a crash at 1020 N. Stratford Road, according to the statement. When they arrived, officers found a white Chevrolet Malibu had crashed into the side of the Marshall’s building. One of the passengers in the vehicle was unresponsive and officers provided aid to him until paramedics from the Moses Lake Fire Department arrived. The passenger, a 25-year-old man, was later pronounced dead at Samaritan Hospital. Another passenger was also transported to the hospital with a serious leg injury.
West was found to have consumed marijuana before the crash, the statement said. As of Saturday, West was still listed on the Grant County Jail inmate roster.
The Columbia Basin Herald does not identify victims of fatal collisions until law enforcement has notified the families and released the names officially.
