Moses Lake Scorpions qualify for Spring Games
MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Scorpions soccer team travels to Tacoma for the Special Olympics’ Spring Games this weekend.
The Spring Games, held Friday through Sunday at multiple locations, are state championship events for athletics (track and field), powerlifting, soccer and swimming.
"(I’m) pleased with the work the team has put in this year,” Scorpions Head Coach Tonia Busherd wrote in an e-mail to the Columbia Basin Herald. “It was difficult playing regionals as one of the other teams was made up of all younger teenagers, with the exception of one athlete over 18. The Scorpions played their hearts out and placed second, which allowed us to advance to state."
After the opening ceremony Friday, the soccer competition begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. In addition to bracket play, there will be an individual skills competition held.
Moses Lake will be competing in Traditional Group I at the Spring Games, matching up against the Issaquah Wildcats, BKAT Huskies and the Enumclaw Thundering Eagles Green in a round-robin competition Saturday. The Othello Dream Team also qualified for the Spring Games and will play in Traditional Group D against the Gig Harbor Riptide, the Renton Hot Shots and the Longview Kelso Shooters 2.
