NEWS BITES: DUI collision, a rough landing and an arrest

MOSES LAKE — Grant County Fire District 5, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Lifeline Ambulance Services responded to a two-car collision at the intersection of Stratford Road NE and Road 7 NE, near the Grant County International Airport Monday. GCSO Spokesperson Kyle Foreman said the accident was likely caused in association with driving under the influence and three or four people were transported to Samaritan Healthcare for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

RITZVILLE — At about 11:45 a.m. Monday a single-engine aircraft traveling from Spokane to Yakama made an emergency landing near the Ritzville Municipal Airport due to an engine failure, according to an Adams County Sheriff’s Office statement. The aircraft touched down outside of the airport and the pilot was uninjured. No property damage appeared to have occurred at the landing site. A photo of the aircraft showed damage to the propeller. 

RITZVILLE — Adams County Sheriff’s Office personnel, the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Border Patrol and Washington State Department of Corrections arrested Jereme Joseph Bassett on July 12 in Ritzville. Bassett was wanted in association with a warrant wherein he’d violated conditions of parole while released in Yakima, Washington while serving a sentence for the death of a 6-month-old. 

    EMS took multiple people to Samaritan hospital in Moses Lake after a DUI-related collision near the Grant County International Airport Monday.
