Norma Pittman

| January 30, 2024 12:23 PM

Norma Pittman passed away at the age of 74 in Yakima, Wash., after battling dementia for several years.

She was born Sept. 14, 1949, in Moscow, Idaho, to Norman and Harriet (Snow) Snider. After the first 10 years of her life in Southern California and Yakima, the Snider family settled in Moses Lake, where Norma attended school. She graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1967 and then from Big Bend Community College in 1969.

It was at Big Bend where she was introduced to the love of her life, Lynn, by a mutual friend. After graduation, Norma joined Lynn at Washington State University where the two got engaged. In 1971, she graduated with a degree in Office Administration and the following week they were married at the Moses Lake Presbyterian Church on June 12.

Norma worked at J.C. Penny’s in the accounting department for two years until the birth of her first daughter, Stefanie, followed by Megan three and half years later. She could not have been happier to become a homemaker, where she was able to stay home to raise their daughters and do the accounting for the family farm. For being a city girl, Norma spent almost 40 years living on the family farm in Warden. She took immense pride in her family, home and yard.

In 2012, Lynn and Norma moved to Moses Lake into the home of her dreams that she helped design.

Norma was so excited to become a grandma when her only grandson, Trevin, was born followed by four granddaughters, Lyndsey, Brooklyn, Abigail, and Kaitlyn. Just as she was a loving and devoted mother, she was also a loving and devoted grammy.

Her love of life and gifts of serving and giving kept Norma active and busy. She was involved in the Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. Investment Club and the Quilt Club. Norma had many talents that included sewing, quilting, crafting and hosting friends and family for holidays and gatherings. She truly was the “hostess with the mostess!”

Norma was dedicated to those she loved and was always willing to help and care for anyone. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Norma is survived by her husband, Lynn, of 53 years. Daughters Stefanie (Mike) Lowry and Megan Jevne. Grandchildren Trevin, Brooklyn, Lyndsey Lowry, Abby and Katie Jevne. Siblings Carol (Jon) Lane, Bill (Yvonne) Snider, Marilyn (Ric) Heideger and brother-in-law Howard (Wilma) Pittman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by son-in-law Chris Jevne.

A celebration of life will be held at the Moses Lake Presbyterian Church on Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. Arrangements provided by Kayser Chapel of Memories. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Norma to Yakima-Highgate Together, 5605 W. Chestnut Ave. Yakima, WA 90908.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Highgate Cottage for the amazing love, kindness and dignity they showed Norma during the last two years. They became more than caregivers and we are forever grateful for them. Thank you also to Hospice for their support and care during the last three months.
