The holidays are over, but there are still things to do in the Columbia Basin to have fun, support good causes and learn. Here is just a sample of those events. Jan. 9

Preschool story time

Kids will read books, do finger plays and action rhymes, sing songs, and explore with other activities. 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday at the Moses Lake Library, 418 E Fifth Ave. Info: 509-765-3489.


Jan. 11

Adults with Special Needs Storytime

This small group of adults with special needs meets every Thursday for a story time with songs and crafts. 10:15 a.m. at the Moses Lake Library, 418 E Fifth Ave. Info: 509-765-3489.


Jan. 12

‘Ahead of the Curve’ opening

Opening reception for a traveling exhibit from Legacy Washington. “Ahead of the Curve” highlights the pioneering spirit of some larger-than-life women and little-known stories with big impacts on Washington, the nation, and beyond. This exhibit will be paired with some additional material researched and designed by the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center about notable Grant County women. Exhibit runs through March 1. 4-7 p.m. at the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center, 401 S. Balsam. Info: 509-764-3830.


Columbia Basin Young Professionals networking event

After almost four years, the Columbia Basin Young Professionals is returning with quarterly networking events for 2024. The first will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Porterhouse Steakhouse, 217 N. Elder St., Moses Lake.

“This is a group of young professionals in the Columbia Basin that want to engage, develop and empower other young professionals,” according to information on the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce website. Info: information@moseslake.com.

Jan. 14

Chili cook-off

Competitive slots are filled, but the public is invited to serve as judges at the Moses Lake Taproom’s first annual chili cook-off. Tasting cups and silverware will be provided by the host, as well as a ballot for each guest. Each contestant will have a chili name tag to list the name of their chili and a rating for heat level. Guests will fill out a ballot for each chili and rate them on a point system. Prizes will be awarded to the top three chefs. 1-3 p.m. at the Moses Lake Taproom, 530 W. Valley Road. Jan. 19

Dancing with the Moses Lake Stars

Join the Central Basin Community Concert Association in raising funds for music and music education in the Columbia Basin. Six local talents will participate in a dance competition, with audience members voting for their favorites. The winner receives the coveted mirror ball trophy – and bragging rights. 7 p.m. at the Big Bend Community College Wallenstien Theater, 6989 College Parkway NE, Moses Lake. Third Friday Beginner’s Jam
