Jensen, Urias continue as president, VP of MLSD board

MOSES LAKE – During the Dec. 19 regular Moses Lake school board meeting the board elected new representees for board positions.
“Each year at our last December meeting, we elect representatives to serve in the roles of president, vice president, legislative representative and WIAA representative,” Board Chair Kirryn Jensen said during the meeting. “This year, we will be adding for two members to serve on the audit committee.”
The board re-elected Jensen as the board president, passing her nomination unanimously via a roll-call vote. Then the board re-elected Carla Urias as the vice president, also unanimously.
The district’s administration has said on multiple occasions over the last year that Jensen and Urias have done well in helping the district regain its financial footing over the last several months, a problem that has its roots well before they were elected and sworn into their first terms on the board.
“The Moses Lake School District is thrilled to have Kirryn Jensen and Carla Urias continued in their positions as chair and vice chair respectively,” said Director of Public Relations Ryan Shannon. “Their leadership has been a great asset to the district. Both Kirryn and Carla are both deeply committed to our students, staff and community. I am, for one, excited to see what they do in the future and the positive impact they will have on the Moses Lake School District.”
The president and vice president are elected annually by the board and a legislative representative is elected every two years.
Paul Hill was elected as the legislative representative. He will be the liaison between the upcoming legislative session and the Moses Lake School board.
Ryan Coulston was elected as the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association representative. Amy Breitenstein had served in that capacity since the last appointment of officers.
The board also introduced the need for two members to serve on the Audit Committee. Jensen suggested a rotating position for these roles. Paul Hill will serve consistently with the second member rotating between the other four board members to ensure the full school board is up to date on the audit and finances.
