QUINCY – On Thursday morning, a 47-year-old Soap Lake resident, was booked into Grant County Jail for investigation of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of motor vehicle theft tools and second-degree attempted vehicle prowl.

According to court documents, a homeowner in the 12000 block of Road P-Northwest, outside of Quincy reported around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday a heavy piece of machinery and a vehicle which were both idling. The property owner said there should not have been anyone on the property.

Jesus Salcedo Alvarez was found sitting in the car. He claimed he was looking for heavy equipment for “his job.”

Police then questioned him about the Ford F750 parked next to Salcedo Alvarez, where the truck’s hood was opened. He claimed he was checking the truck’s oil level. The truck is owned by a Seattle rental firm.

Then, he was questioned regarding the Massey Ferguson tractor, also located near Salcedo Alvarez. He claimed it was his and produced an insurance card listing Grant County Public Works as the tractor’s owners. The department contacted the public works department, and they said Salcedo Alvarez did not have permission to have the tractor.

He was also in possession of two other bundles of heavy equipment keys.
