COLUMBIA BASIN — With Christmas fast approaching, a lot of folks are staying home or visiting family, but there are still some things to do out in the community this week. Here are a few possibilities:

Dec. 20

Christmas Ornaments Craft Night

Kids, tweens and teens can create an ornament, watch a Christmas movie and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate while making memories and having a good time. 3:30 p.m. at the Moses Lake Public Library, 418 E. Fifth Ave. Info: 509-765-3489.

Dec. 21

Ugly Christmas sweater contest

Get your ugliest Christmas sweater out of the closet, spiff it up and get your friends together. Karaoke by DJ Puddin’ will start at 8 p.m., and sweater judging will begin at 9:30 in four categories: Best couple’s costume, funniest sweater, best DIY ugly Christmas sweater and most festive hair. Dec. 22

Community-wide toy swap

Do you have toys and books taking up space at your house, or need gifts for children because money is tight? Volunteers from Moses Lake Nazarene Church will get them set up and ready for families to “shop” for the perfect gift for their children at no cost. Gifts should be in ready-to-use condition. Dec. 23-24

Winter drop-in crafting

The Moses Lake Museum & Art Center is cleaning out its craft closet and will have various fun, winter-themed crafts for all ages. Best of all, it’s free. And word on the street is there may be hot cocoa. No drop-offs; parents/guardians must stay onsite with their children, though they’re welcome to browse the museum or the store while their child is crafting in the classroom. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Moses Lake Museum & Art Center, 410 S. Open Mic Night
