Jean L. Simpson
Our beloved mother, Jean L Simpson, 87, earned her angel wings Dec. 12, 2024, with her family by her side at Avamere Senior Living.
Jean was born April 11, 1937, in DeQueen, Ark., to Clarence and Majorie Coleman. She was the oldest of six children. She received a Public School Diploma from the state of Idaho on May 23, 1951. She married the love of her life Arnold Simpson in Rupert, Idaho, and the couple celebrated their 61st anniversary Oct. 23, 2024.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Baptized Aug. 5 of 1968. Arnold and Jean were sealed for all eternity June 12, 1993, at the Seattle temple.
Jean was a hardworking, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She worked as a waitress and cook at Harrington Restaurant for many years. She also worked at the Carnation Potato Processing Plant. She went to Big Bend Community College to earn her paraeducator certificate and spent over 10 years at Larson Heights Elementary helping teachers and students.
Jean had many interests which included teaching her children how to love the outdoors and care for animals. She had several hobbies including crocheting, knitting, quilting, puzzles, reading, sewing, bowling, camping, fishing at O’Sullivan Dam and Camp Hosting at Georgetown Lake in Anaconda, Mont. Family and friends were excited to receive some of her handmade projects. But she was most proud of contributing knitted/crochet hats to newborn babies at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. She was well known for having a green thumb for both indoor/outdoor plants and flowers. She had an amazing garden.
She cherished family BBQs, birthday parties and holiday get-togethers. She was a diehard Seahawk fan with the Mariners coming in second place. But she loved her football.
Jean is survived by her children, Jeannette (Dan) Krumm, Manson Wa, Keith (Caye) Simpson, Carolyn (Jay) Johnson and Arna (Randy) Johnson, all of Moses Lake. Her sister, Ida Knutson, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind Lena, her dog.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold (Arnie) Simpson, her parents, her grandson, Scott Johnson, and four of her siblings.
Special thanks to Avamere Senior Living for taking such good care of our mom and Assured Hospice for all the loving support.
It takes a village and we had an amazing one!
