Possible blue-green algae in south Moses Lake
MOSES LAKE – The Grant County Health District received a report of suspected blue-green algae bloom in the South Moses Lake area, near the Sand Dunes. Samples will be taken next week, according to the GCHD press release.
Blue-green algae blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to both people and pets. GCHD says that blue-green algae can be identified
GCHD recommends staying out of the lake water in this area, avoiding boating in areas of scum and clean fish well, discarding the guts.
Signage will be posted soon and will remain up until sampling shows toxin levels are within safe limits. GCHD asks people to be careful around the lake and blue-green algae blooms could be present in other parts of the lake.
