COLUMBIA BASIN — Fairs, festivals, live music and art mark the end of summer in the Basin. Here are some things to do this month: 

Sept. 1 

Pirates of Camas Cove Regatta 

A flotilla of fun! Build your own boat and race around the course off the dock at Camas Cove Cellars. Race starts at 3:30 p.m. with prizes and a celebration to follow. Sept. 3 

Tunes on Tuesday with CarlyAnn Calbero 

Carly Ann Calbero built her sound on Brandi Carlile, Pike Place Market and the immersive music scene of the Pacific Northwest. Her powerhouse vocals and dynamic playing led to a spot in a national ad campaign for M&M's, a final spot in Rolling Stone Magazine's Street-To-Stage competition, and a headlining spot as the winner of NWMF's Emerging Artist program. Sunbanks Blues & Roots Festival

Sept. 6 

Back to School Movie Night 

The Greater Othello Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the start of school with a Back-to-School Movie Night at Kiwanis Park, East Scootney Street. “Monsters University” is the movie, chosen by popular vote. Movie time will be announced. Info: 509-488-2683.

Sept. 6-7 

Mattawa Fall Cleanup 

Mattawa city officials will sponsor a “Fall Cleanup” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Dropoff will be open to residents of Mattawa and the surrounding areas, including Desert Aire, Beverly, Schwana and south Grant County. Proof of residence will be required. Yard waste, appliances and furniture will be accepted, as well as vehicle tires. Charges vary depending on the size of the load. Dropoff will be at 710 First St., Mattawa, the city water tower.  

Sept. 7 

Concealed Carry Class 

This four-hour comprehensive training course is designed to educate individuals on the laws and regulations surrounding the carrying of concealed firearms. This class covers essential topics such as the use of force, firearms safety, and the proper handling and storage of firearms, as well as the specific laws and any requirements for obtaining permits in Washington, Oregon, and Arizona. Upon class completion, attendees can apply for the above-mentioned permits and receive a WA-HB-1143 Gun Safety Certificate. Music & Wine Straight from the Vine 

Music on the patio by local duo Wendy Lee and Garry Brunton. Water, soda, snacks, local farmstead cheeses by Umapine Creamery, Gourmet Popcorn by Cornfusion, local meats from Pure Country Pork & CJ's Custom Meats available in the tasting room as well as Camas Cove wine. Downtown Moses Lake Economic Vitality Committee Meeting 

Economic Vitality strengthens a community’s existing economic assets while expanding and diversifying its economic base. The Main Street organization helps sharpen the competitiveness of existing business owners, helps to foster entrepreneurial start-ups and expansions and recruits compatible new businesses and new economic uses to build a commercial district to create jobs and to respond to today’s consumers’ needs. 12 p.m. at Desert Plaza Conference Room 124 E. Sept. 10 

Naughty Pottery Night

Tunes on Tuesday with The Welter Brothers 

The Welter Brothers are a classic stringed instrument-wielding blood harmony duo. Jackson, a historian, delves as far back as the thirteenth century in the English/Scottish ballad tradition, infusing this wealth of knowledge into even the most modern arrangements. Corban, an original songwriter and skilled technician on several instruments, brings a contemporary perspective to even the oldest of songs. 6:30 p.m. at Moore Brewing Company, 302 W. Sept. 11 

Othello Demo Derby

Sept. 11-14 

Othello Fair

Sept. 12-15 

Sunbanks Rocks! Festival

Sept. 13 

B Street Block Party

Othello PRCA Rodeo

Sept. 14 

Farmer Consumer Awareness Day 

Farmer Consumer Awareness Day is a day for farmers to show how food is produced, and for consumers to learn. The festival includes a parade, farm equipment display, quilt show, vendors, tours, fun run, car show, a cook-off, and a soccer tournament. 9 a.m. at Quincy Middle School, 16 Sixth Ave. SE, Quincy. Sip & Stroll 

Downtown Moses Lake Association fundraiser wine walk. Visit 23 participating locations, a beer garden in the square, a photo booth and a car show. A local shuttle will take participants around to the extended locations. Sip-and-Strollers will receive tasting tickets, raffle tickets, a map of the event and a customized tasting glass and bag. 1-5 p.m. at Sinkiuse Square, 216 W. Third Ave., Moses Lake. Art on Third 

See local artists and their works gathered in downtown Moses Lake. Care Fair

Walk to End Alzheimer’s 

Put on your purple and come out to McCosh Park to help in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. The walk raises funds for care, support and research, as well as providing support and companionship for people living with or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s and other dementia. Hartline Community Days

King Grizzard and the Lizard Wizard 

Surf-infused psychedelic rock from Australia. The band is setting out to promote its album “PetroDragonic Apocalypse, or Dawn of Eternal Night.” These mega shows are an endless party experience as the group promises three-hour marathon shows with no breaks. 6:40 p.m. at the Gorge Amphitheatre, 754 Silica Road, Quincy. Friends of the Moses Lake Library Book Sale

Flower & Pumpkin Field Open House

Fire Department Storytime

Sept. 21 

Autism Awareness Walk

Financial Freedom Workshop

Veteran Resource and Job Fair 

Employment opportunities for veterans and information for vets from service organizations will be among the attractions at the annual job and resource fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the commercial building at the Grant County Fairgrounds, 3953 Airway Dr., Moses Lake. Veterans can receive free cold weather gear and talk to representatives from Veteran’s Affairs department.  

Sept. 25 

Back to the ’80s Pottery Night 

Do you have fond memories of Saturday morning cartoons with the Smurfs, Rainbow Brite or the A Team? Special themed pottery night with decor, photo props, snacks and music. Organizers will be pouring their own pottery for this event to have the classic vintage characters that are no longer made. 6 p.m. at The Creative Studio, 1039 W. Broadway Ave., Moses Lake. Sept. 28 

UMANI Festival 

UMANI is a major community-wide collaboration between individuals and many of the largest cultural institutions in our area to celebrate our community’s Hispanic heritage. Free activities include access to a low rider car show and hop off, music, barbers, artists, creative workshops, crafts and games for families, resource booths, vendors, food trucks and a beer garden. 12-6 p.m. at Sinkiuse Square, 216 W. Down Syndrome Buddy Walk 

More than a walk, this is a celebration of the people in our community with Down syndrome. Music, dancing, activities, food and games precede the walk. 2:30 p.m. at McCosh Park, Moses Lake. Info: 360-903-3201. 

Celebration of Harvest and Culture 

The Quincy Valley Historical Society and Museum will recognize the many cultures that settled and live in the Quincy Valley, and the agriculture that forms an important part of its economy, with a festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum, 415 F St. SW. People can learn about pioneer life and go for a hayride; there will be crafts for children and live music. A parade of flags representing the heritage of Quincy pioneers and current residents is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. 

Second Annual Party for the Paws 

Adams County Pet Rescue will have its second annual celebration and fundraiser including a yappy hour, chow time, dessert dash and a live auction. The tickets are one for $30 and two for $50. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. at the Adams County Fair Grounds, 831 Reynolds Road, Othello.  

Almira Country Fair 

Parade, kids’ activities, firemen’s breakfast, pickleball and bean bag tournaments, community dinner and bingo. All day at Lions Club Park, Almira. Info: almiracountryfair@gmail.com. 

Imagine Dragons
