Cheryl Lampe
Our sweet mom, Cheryl Lampe, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024. We imagine our dad, being the gentleman that he was and how much he loved her, was there waiting at the gates of heaven to open the door for her and hold her hand. What a celebration they must be having!
Cheryl Jean Lampe was born Jan. 15, 1953, in Pasco, Wash., to Stan and Jean Delp. Mom was the oldest of three children, Cheryl, Mike and Patty. As a family, they lived in several places before settling down in Connell, Wash., where Papa Stan worked for The Johnson Farm. While living there, Mom formed a very special relationship with the Johnson family, as well as her neighbor, Florence. Florence was an "extra grandma" to Mom.
Growing up, Mom absolutely loved all the family gatherings! Grandma Bessie's house was a very special place to her and to anyone who was blessed to have been able to spend time there. From running through the orchards to fresh fruit right off the trees, playing cards for hours, and having the best homemade ice cream ever! It was well-known that when the homemade ice cream was ready, Mom and the cousins were going to battle for the ice cream paddle! It was highly sought after and the winner had bragging rights until the next batch of ice cream was made. This tradition still goes on at Arlin and Vicki's house for the yearly Delp family reunion. Mom rarely missed a reunion. She loved going and visiting with all the family.
Her senior year of high school, Mom met and fell in love with our dad, Mike Lampe. Mom graduated from Connell High School in 1971. On June 10, 1972, Mom and Dad were married at the Connell Methodist Church. Florence "extra grandma" made Mom's beautiful wedding dress and veil. As happy newlyweds, they decided to live in Othello, where mom attended Modern Business College and worked for Chef Reddy. Then they found out they were expecting their first child! Jennifer Joy was born! They went on to have two more daughters; Lisa Marie and Sara June. Raising daughters and spoiling grandchildren would be mom's greatest joys in life.
In 1971, the family business, Lampe Jewelers, was established in Othello. In 1982, Mom and Dad had the opportunity to open another jewelry store in Omak, Wash. In Omak, mom was a business owner, active in the Chamber of Commerce, Beta and many other clubs and organizations. But, where you could find our mom and dad the most was at our sports events. We don't think she ever missed a single one of our games. Mom loved watching and rooting for us! She did not just cheer us on, if you were one of our friends then she loved, cared for, and rooted for you, too! She was a "bonus mom" to many of our friends.
Sadly in 1999 our dad unexpectedly passed away. Our mom and dad had a beautiful marriage. This was a very difficult time for our family. Mom made the decision to close the jewelry store and move to Moses Lake. This allowed her to be closer to her kids and grandkids.
In 2005, Mom became an insurance agent. This would be her career until she retired in 2023. It was a career that brought her a lot of happiness, and success, and she loved being able to help others.
She had a special bond with her sister, Patty. Their yearly Cannon Beach trips were something they both looked forward to. They loved taking one week every year for sister time at the beach. Mom loved it!
As much as she was an incredible mother to us, nothing compares to how she was as a grandma! Oh boy did she love her eight grandchildren! She started a tradition that began with her first grandchild to give Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve. This tradition has now been going on for 25 years! 25 years of gifting matching Christmas pajamas on Christmas Eve for all the grandchildren! This became real tricky when some of these grandkids ended up being as tall as skyscrapers! Ha! But she loved the challenge and nailed it every year. Mom showed up for her grandkids. She made an effort to go to as many activities as she could. She also loved to crochet and we all have beautiful afghans that she made for us. We treasure these blankets. One of her favorite activities to do with all of us and the grandkids was to play cards and board games. Sitting around her dining table playing games, eating popcorn from the giant popcorn bowl, while watching whatever sports game was on the TV that day was her perfect day! We all loved being at her house and it made her heart so happy to have us there.
Mom loved the Lord with all her heart. Our mom was a joy to be around. She sparkled! She was fiercely loyal. She always tried to find the positives in a situation. Her home was a place where everyone was welcomed and felt loved.
Mom is survived by Craig and Jennifer Byers and their children Kayla, Michael and Jayson; Taber and Lisa Murphy and their children, Zimri and Raeger; Dustin and Sara Haynes and their children, Gavin, Ezekiel and Aria; sister Patty and brother Mike; and so many family and friends that she loved deeply.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Lampe; and her parents, Stan and Jean Delp.
A memorial will be held at the Moses Lake Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at 11 a.m. Mom often said, "Life is uncertain, eat dessert first!" We will have a dessert reception at the church immediately following the memorial.
In lieu of flowers, Mom was all about spending time with family. We ask that you go home to your family, give them big hugs, then go do something fun with them. Maybe pull out a deck of cards or a board game. Just enjoy the time you have with them, it's worth it!
We will miss you, mom! Thank you for your legacy! You were an absolute blessing to many, especially to us. Give dad a big hug! We love you!
