2 arrested for suspected car theft, assault in Quincy

QUINCY — A Moses Lake man and Moses Lake teen were arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault after they allegedly stole a car, crashed it and ran away, with one suspect knocking on doors in a Quincy neighborhood asking for a ride.  

Quincy Police Chief Ryan Green said the incident was initially reported as disturbance at Jackpot Food Mart, 308 F St., Quincy. When QPD officers arrived they found a man who claimed two suspects had stolen his car, Green said. 

“The victim told police two males approached him, dragged his girlfriend out of the car and drove off east on State Route 28 in (the victim’s) red Ford Mustang,” wrote Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, in a press release. “Quincy Police had a good idea who the suspects were since officers had earlier dealt with two people matching the descriptions.” 

While QPD officers were talking to the victim, a collision involving a red Ford Mustang was reported at Adams Road North and Road 11 Northwest, Foreman wrote. While the crash was being investigated, officers began receiving reports of a suspicious person in the 800 block of Rocky Avenue Northeast in Quincy.  

Quincy officers investigated and found the 16-year-old knocking on doors and asking residents for a ride out of town, Foreman wrote. He was taken into custody by QPD officers. 

The Crime Reduction Team from GCSO found the second suspect, Jose Sila Padilla, Moses Lake, in the 200 block of I Street Northeast. Padilla was missing a shoe; the one he still had matched one found in the parking lot at Jackpot Food Mart, Foreman wrote. 

“The sock on his shoeless foot was wet and dirty, and his pants were dirty, suggesting he had just run through a farm field,” Foreman wrote. 

Padilla was booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of second-degree robbery, theft of a moto vehicle and fourth degree assault. The 16-year-old was taken to the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of second-degree robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and fourth-degree assault.
