Elena Freeman
Elena Freeman, 83, was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Argentina to Nikita and Anastacia Koval. Elena accepted the Lord as her personal savior at a young age while listening to HCJB Christian radio. She loved and served the Lord from that day forward.
She moved to Brazil with her sister and brother-in-law in 1959. In 1960, she moved again, this time to New Jersey and worked in a clothing manufacturing factory. In 1963, she relocated to Seattle where she met Nick Freeman at the First Ukrainian Baptist Church. She married Nick in 1964 and lived in Seattle until 1973 when they purchased a small farm in Carnation, Wash.
Nick and Elena made their final relocation to Soap Lake, Wash., in 1983, where, in 1964, they had spent part of their honeymoon. The very place where they started their married life was their permanent residence, where they lived for many years.
Elena enjoyed being a homemaker, mother, Baba, traveling, mission trips, serving in Awana, volunteering at the Soap Lake Food Bank, garden club, gardening, serving in many churches in the community and child evangelism.
Most of all she loved getting people together in her home and entertaining.
Elena is survived by her children — Liza Friend and husband Tom; Nick Freeman; Steve Freeman and wife Laura and 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Maria Paulichan, and husband John as well as many nieces and nephews.
Elena is preceded in death by her husband, Nick, parents Nickita and Anatacia Koval, sisters Anna, Julia, Nadiya, Matrona and Eva and her brother, Ted.
