MOSES LAKE — In a weekend filled with high-stakes baseball action, the Big Bend Community College Vikings displayed the true essence of resilience and determination as they looked to sweep the Yakima Valley Yaks in a thrilling four-game series, looking for a playoff berth.

The series opener April 27 set the stage for what would be an intense showdown between the two teams. Brendan McKinley took the mound for BBCC and delivered a masterful performance, stifling Yakima Valley's offense for six scoreless innings. However, the Yaks rallied late, testing the Viking’s mettle. Despite facing adversity in the ninth inning with two two-out defensive miscues, the Vikings rallied to score crucial runs in extra innings, ultimately clinching a hard-fought 6-5 victory. Ryley Doig and JT Penrod emerged as offensive stalwarts, leading the charge with timely hits and clutch performances, each collecting two hits a piece.

Buoyed by their dramatic victory in game one, the Vikings entered the following game with confidence and determination. In a display of offensive firepower, BBCC struck early, capitalizing on opportunities to build a commanding lead. Led by JT Penrod's pivotal double in the third inning, the Vikings surged ahead, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Despite Yakima Valley's attempts to mount a comeback, the Vikings remained resilient, showcasing their ability to weather the storm and maintain their composure. With a stellar performance from starting pitcher Dylan Schaefer and a relentless offensive onslaught, BBCC sealed the deal with a resounding 14-4 mercy rule victory in eight innings. Ryley Doig and JT Penrod led the Viking offense each collecting two hits and driving in three runs a piece in the victory.

Reflecting on the series sweep, head coach Chase Tunstall commended his team's resilience and emphasized the importance of consistency and defensive improvement. Despite facing challenges throughout the season, the Vikings have demonstrated their ability to rise to the occasion and compete at the highest level. With their sights set on the postseason, BBCC remains focused and determined to control their destiny as they navigate the remainder of the season.

The series sweep against Yakima Valley not only solidifies BBCC's position as a force to be reckoned with but also serves as a testament to what this team is capable of. As they continue their journey toward playoff contention, the Vikes remain steadfast in their pursuit of success, fueled by a shared sense of purpose and a relentless desire to achieve greatness on the diamond.

The Vikings are preparing to host Spokane Falls Community College on Wednesday to start the second to last conference series at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Viking Field.
