WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., announced Thursday the start of the annual Central Washington Congressional Art Competition. The statement said all Central Washington high school students are eligible to participate and the winning entry will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol.

“The Congressional Art Competition is an event I look forward to each year,” Newhouse said in the announcement. “Seeing the talent of young artists from all over Central Washington is truly something special, and I hope that students take this opportunity to showcase their creativity.”

All artwork must be submitted to one of Newhouse’s district offices by April 29, listed below, according to the statement. In addition to being displayed in the U.S. Capitol, the winning artwork is also featured on the Congressional Art Competition page. The winner will be invited to a Congressional reception in Washington D.C. and honorable mention winners will be invited to have their artwork hung in one of Newhouse’s district offices, the statement said.

Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 26 inches by 26 inches, up to 4 inches in depth, and may not weigh more than 15 pounds. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive framed and must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions.

Art can be submitted as paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art or photographs, according to the announcement.

The statement said all entries must be original in concept, design and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. For more information on the competition, including additional rules, visit bit.ly/NewhouseArtCompetition or contact Emily Garza at emily.garza@mail.house.gov.
