MOSES LAKE — There are just five weeks left to make your nominations for the Third Annual Best of the Basin Community Choice Awards. Nominations began in August for the recognition program that is based on our local communities and their favorite businesses from around the Columbia Basin.

Who will be The Best of the Basin winners? That’s all up to the public to decide. Anyone can go to the contest website on a daily basis and nominate their favorite businesses in one of 127 categories until October 24. Business categories are divided up between five groups: Dining and Libations, Health & Wellness, Shopping, Services and Agriculture. Some small examples of the categories in those groups are: Auction House, Butcher Shop, Livestock Auction, Trucking Company, Barber Shop, Financial Advisor, Internet Provider, Security Services, Clothing Store, Best Jewelry Store, Tattoo Studio, Bartender, Salon, Cannabis Dispensary, Bookstore, Childcare Facility, Local Band, Asian Restaurant, Bartender, Bloody Mary and Restaurant.

One of the categories that gets bigger every year is Best Coffee Stand. There are an outstanding 30 businesses that have been nominated so far in that category, and only three will move on. Every nomination counts. Think about where you go on a daily or weekly basis, little errands that are so routine that you are familiar with the people you come across and know by name. Your baristas, bartenders, doctors, auto mechanics, and every business in between. They could be your neighbor or someone who has come to your rescue.

Are 127 categories enough to represent the diverse businesses that make up the greater Columbia Basin? During the nomination phase requests to add additional categories can be made to the Herald. If you have a business you would like to nominate but it doesn’t fit the current categories, please put in your request as soon as possible. Once the nominations end Oct. 24, the list of nominations is sorted and the top three businesses with the most nominations in each category will be placed into the voting round. After that, the decision is up to local voters to choose from the top three nominees. Voting will take place through our Best of the Basin website.

Voting runs from Nov. 8 through Dec. 2, and winners will be announced in the Best of the Basin Winners Guide on Dec. 28. The contest website is https://bit.ly/CBHBESTOF2023 and you can reach the Herald at editor@columbiabasinherald.com.
