Yuvonne Buckley
Yuvonne Margaret Anderson Buckley, a long-time Moses Lake resident passed away Oct. 16, 2023, in Seattle, Wash., at the age of 97.
Yuvonne was born May 18, 1926, to Roberto Paul Anderson and Lottie (Armstrong) Anderson in Hoquiam, Wash. She was their first child, followed by Roberta Jean (1927), Robert “Bud” Leroy (1932) and Charlotte Kay (1936). Yuvonne was raised at the Finch Quarry 7 miles out of Chewelah, Wash., where her dad worked at the magnesite mines. She attended 12 years at the Chewelah schools and graduated in 1944 from Jenkins High School alongside her future husband, LeRoy, having gone all 12 years together.
They were married on LeRoy’s leave from the Navy on Jan. 11, 1945. She worked for the U.S. Navy supply depot during LeRoy’s tenure and left several times to join her husband in San Francisco, San Diego and Samson, N.Y.
Their first daughter, Gail, was born in 1949 while LeRoy attended college in Cheney, Wash., under the GI Bill. They lived in Trailerville on the campus of the college for three years. Their second daughter, Susan, was born in 1951 while living in Chewelah.
Yuvonne enjoyed life and would drive the motorhome, by herself even, to Yuma, Ariz., in 1986 to visit the snowbirds from her Sandy Sams RV group. She loved to travel, including bus tours, cruises or flying anywhere. Every August she would make the trip to Chewelah for her school reunions.
She loved playing pinochle with the two clubs she belonged to along with gin and cribbage. She always loved a challenge! Yuvonne could hardly wait for spring to come and the Mariners to begin playing. Several trips to Peoria, Ariz. to spring training was a highlight for her.
Some of her interests were oil painting, genealogy, knitting and crocheting. Her goal was to crochet an afghan for each family member and she did. She loved her photo albums (34 in total), scrapbooks (14) and crossword puzzles.
Her love and caring for family was first and foremost for Yuvonne and she had been lovingly named The Matriarch. Her friends and church were very important to her.
Preceding her in death were her husband, LeRoy (Buck), in October of 1984 of pancreatic cancer, brother Robert (Bud) in 2010, sister Roberta (Bobbe) in 2012, sister Charlotte in 1942 and niece Cynthia in 1996.
Yuvonne is survived by daughters Gail Jones (Randy), Susan Nesper (Wesley), grandsons Zach Jones (Erin) and Connor Jones (Kelli), great-grandchildren Colin, Tate, Logan and Harper, sister-in-laws Sharon Anderson, Alene Florence, Debbie Currier and nieces Jeanne Benecke Anderson, Erin Anderson, Denine Broyles, Charlene Sandland.
Yuvonne will be laid to rest beside her husband at Pioneer Memorial Cemetery. A service will be held Nov. 4, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Pioneer Memorial Gardens Chapel 14486 Road 2 NE Moses Lake, WA 98837.
