Jeffrey Van Ness

| October 20, 2023 1:35 PM

Jeffrey Paul Van Ness, 61, of Moses Lake, passed away quietly at home with his family by his side Sept. 13, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

Jeff was born to Jerry A. Van Ness and Alice Kelley on Nov. 7, 1962, in Missoula, Mont., before settling in Moses Lake. After graduating from MLHS in 1981, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. As a sergeant in the Army, Jeff was stationed in Germany from 1981 to 1985, where he was honored and proud to serve his country. After returning home, Jeff had various jobs. He knew many trades but was mostly mechanically inclined, and very hard-working.

When he wasn’t working, he cared for his love, Kathi, for several years until she sadly succumbed to MS in January of this year. Jeff loved every moment with his girls and grandkids, teaching them new things and the value of hard work. He loved listening to music, tinkering with his trucks, Seahawks games, NASCAR, going to concerts, watching westerns, upholstering, playing fetch with his dog Bobby and joking with his girls using his very quick wit. Jeff will be very missed.

Jeff is preceded in death by his life partner Kathi Bonner; parents Jerry and Charlotte Van Ness and mother Alice Kelley; brother Jay Van Ness; and sister Kay Laffranchi. Jeff is survived by his three daughters Patricia Van Ness, Teri Van Ness and Caitlin Andrews; his five sisters Deanna McDonald (Jim), Anita Kelley, Raelene Munoz (Ramiro), Betty Zimmerman (Ted) and Cheryl Van Wechel; and nine grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at the American Legion in Moses Lake.
