LGBTQ+ academic scholarships open
MOSES LAKE — Scholarship website Bold.org announced Monday several new academic scholarships tailored specifically for LGBTQ+ high school, undergraduate and graduate students.
The announcement listed two larger scholarships, a Gender Expansive & Transgender Scholarship, which will award $3,700 to ten individuals, and the Lyndsey Scott Coding+ Scholarship, which will award the first, second and third winner $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively, with $1000 each to the other 10 winners.
According to the statement, the Gender Expansive scholarship is open to any transgender or gender-expansive undergraduate student who has at least a 3.0 GPA, and the application deadline is Oct. 30. The Lyndsey Scott scholarship is open to LGBTQIA+, women, and/or BIPOC students who are majoring in computer science and are also pursuing other interests. The application deadline is Jan. 14, 2024.
The announcement listed four other scholarships $1,000 or less for one to two winners each. The Adam Montes Pride Scholarship is due Mar. 22, 2024, and open to any LGBTQ+ high school student who is an underrepresented minority and will be a first-generation college student. The PRIDE in Education Award is open to any high school senior or undergraduate student who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community or is an ally toward the community, and is due Apr. 1, 2024.
High school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply for the Elijah's Helping Hand Scholarship Award, which is due May 12, 2024, according to the announcement. The VNutrition & Wellness’ Annual LGBTQ+ Vitality Scholarship is open to any LGBTQ+ high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and it is due July 1, 2024.
