BASIN SPORTS RECAP: Local volleyball teams find success
COLUMBIA BASIN — Postseason competition is just around the corner for the various girls soccer, football, volleyball, slowpitch softball and swim and dive teams across the Columbia Basin. Read along for a look at how local teams fared over the previous week.
All scores and records are according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline
Football
The Warriors improved to 5-1 with Friday’s 40-14 win over Wellpinit, where sophomore Caden Correia and junior Carter Pitts both totaled over 130 rushing yards in the game. Correia, Pitts and sophomore Brady Roberts all scored in last week’s win, and the Warriors rushed for over 300 yards for the fourth time this season.
ACH travels to Wilbur-Creston-Keller for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the undefeated Wildcats this Friday.

Volleyball (7-2): 3-2 loss to Odessa on Tuesday. Set scores; Odessa 25-19, Odessa 25-19, ACH 25-13, ACH 25-19, Odessa 15-9.
Ephrata
Volleyball
The Tigers suffered their first league loss last week, falling 3-0 to Ellensburg with set scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-17 in favor of the Bulldogs. Earlier last week, Ephrata took down Prosser with a 3-1 win over the Mustangs. Now at 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Central Washington Athletic Conference, Ephrata played Selah on the road Tuesday night. Scores were not available in time for press deadline.

Girls Soccer (6-7): lost 2-1 to Selah on Thursday, defeated Othello 2-1 on Saturday.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague
Volleyball
The LRS Broncos improved to 10-0 with three-straight road wins last week, defeating Kittitas 30 on Tuesday, Northwest Christian (Colbert) 3-1 on Thursday and Kettle Falls 3-0 on Friday. After Tuesday’s home game against Reardan, the Broncos host Liberty (Spangle) on Thursday night.

Moses Lake
Football
Moses Lake’s undefeated start to the year continued Friday night, taking down Davis 59-14 at home while putting up nearly 500 yards of offense in the win. Sophomore quarterback Brady Jay threw three touchdown passes to senior Joel Middleton, and junior running back Tommy Ransom Jr. ran for 114 yards and a touchdown on four carries.

Slowpitch Softball (12-5): 11-1 and 20-2 wins over Davis on Tuesday, 14-4 and 13-3 losses to Chiawana on Thursday.
Volleyball (5-4): 3-1 win over Eisenhower on Thursday.
MLCA/CCS
Football
The Lions racked up another win on Thursday night, defeating Entiat 62-44 on the road to improve to 6-0 this season. MLCA/CCS hosts Oroville on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Othello
Volleyball
The 5-3 Huskies strung together their second and third-straight league wins last week, defeating Grandview 3-0 on the road Oct. 3 and Prosser at home 3-0 on Thursday. After Tuesday’s road match against Ellensburg, Othello travels to Selah on Thursday and Wapato on Saturday.

Quincy
Girls Soccer
The 8-3 Jackrabbits suffered their second league loss on Thursday night, falling 1-0 to the Cashmere Bulldogs at home in overtime. Quincy had an opportunity to take the lead in the second half on a penalty kick, but the shot was missed and the two teams remained tied until the 87th minute when Cashmere scored. After Tuesday’s non-league game against Brewster, the Jacks host Chelan on Thursday and travel to Freeman on Saturday.

Royal
Football
The Knights held Kiona-Benton to just 51 yards of offense in Friday’s 55-0 win over the Bears, recording seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss in the win. Royal quarterback Lance Allred threw for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and running backs Brody Bishop and Jared Lee combined for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Royal is on a bye this week and returns to the field on the road against College Place next week.

The 8-2 Eagles sit in second place of the Central Washington B League standings after four wins, defeating Wilson Creek 3-1 on Oct. 2, MLCA/CCS 3-2 on Oct. 3, Pateros 3-0 on Thursday and Easton 3-1 on Monday. After Tuesday’s game against Thorp, Soap Lake travels to Cascade Christian on Thursday.

Wahluke
Girls Soccer
The Warriors reached 6-3-2 on the year after splitting last week’s games, defeating Connell 3-2 on Oct. 3 before falling 5-0 to Kiona-Benton on the road Thursday. After Tuesday’s game against Royal, the Warriors travel to Toppenish on Thursday.

Warden
Volleyball
After beginning the year 10-0 the Cougars lost for the first time Oct. 3, falling 3-1 to River View. The Panthers won the first set 25-11 with Warden answering and winning the second set 25-13. River View was able to close out the match with wins in the third and fourth set to win 3-1, though Warden responded with a sweep of Tri-Cities Prep on Saturday to get back in the win column.

Wilson Creek improved to 7-3 after three wins over a six-day span, defeating Easton 3-0 on Oct. 3, Thorp 3-1 on Thursday and MLCA/CCS on Monday. The Devils travel to Republic on Thursday.
